the reason you use &ndash is that it is the correct html use for that character, if you don't it doesn't render correctly in all browsers. It is not correct for mathamatical formulas since it is not a minus sign but a long dash. Similarly a minus sign is not a long dash and should not but used as such in prose. International football teams

Why did you remove maintenance tags on mass for these articles? Fasach Nua (talk) 06:13, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You don't need to answer that, Hubschrauber. As I'm sure you are aware, Fasach Nua has been adding maintenance tags to articles unilaterally without any discussion with the wider community, so you did precisely the right thing. Fasach Nua, next time you feel like adding tags to articles en masse, please discuss it on the appropriate talk page. – PeeJay 18:03, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Assists of Goalkeepers in Bundesliga

For your information: I saw that you added to the articles of Manuel Neuer and René Adler that they are the only ones who had an assist in the 2007–08 Bundesliga season. Although you have a source for this, I have a source that Michael Rensing also got an assist (see [1]). As I watched the match with the assist of Michael Rensing, I am heavily in favor of my source and think that the the claim that they are the only ones with an assist is wrong. --Jaellee (talk) 20:20, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can I ask why you reverted my edit of this article (http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Marko_Marin&oldid=221411557 )? It is common to list sporting people's ethnic background in their bios. batobatobato (talk) 10:39, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Charts

Hello. Well, that's another alternative you know. I just left a message in WikiProject Football proposing that the club performance charts shold be moved to the sub-section Club Career (you know, club with club, international with international). However, you have just proposed another idea: something like a section that could be called "Club and national team performance"... hmmm... well, why don't you join in on the discussion? The fact is that the All-time club performance chart and the international goals table should be arranged in a more logical way. Mannschaftskapitän (talk) 04:57, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I Just saw the "Statistics" section that the article of Michael Ballack has. I think that this would make a great standard, don't you think?. Mannschaftskapitän (talk) 05:05, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I updated the proposal in the WikiProject Football Talk. If you care to look go here: Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football, it is the last thread. Anyways I think that we won't have a quick answer, that if anyone cares to answer... As for now, I invite you to join to WikiProject Football if you aren't already in. It is better to leave Lahm and Schweni articles just the way they are so they can serve as models for a possible discussion but if you want to re-arrange them go ahead... your proposal is a good one. In fact, if the original proposal isn't even discussed or is rejected I myself will adopt the "Statistics" exclusive section format. Mannschaftskapitän (talk) 05:21, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please review WP:CSD carefully

I see you have tagged numerous articles for speedy deletion without stating a valid basis. I am going to remove all of these tags. Though there may be some that do meet some criterion, such as CSD A7, the one I just declined met none. Your stated basis of "Hasn't made fully professional appearance yet" is not a valid CSD basis. Generally, if you can't apply a specific tag under a specific criterion, you're probably asking for speedy deletion on an invalid basis. The generic speedy deletion template, {{db}}, has legitimate uses, but they are rare.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 05:42, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Just to let you know that you are in danger of violating the three revert rule on Michael Ballack. Please discuss content changes on the article's talk page rather than engage in edit wars. Regards. SteveO (talk) 01:48, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

&ndash (again)

Why do you insist on altering these? My browser at work does not render the infoboxes correctly if &ndash in not used. --KingStrato (talk) 05:35, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Totally agree &ndash rules out problems of different internet browsers, please you have been warned previously to stop the formatting that causes problems and goes against the given standard. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 16:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You have here, and an explanation given over the problems that it creates and with the issues of how a - & - appears in the edit feature, but come out differently in the final product. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 16:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The issue arises with the manual input, when a minus is typed it gives the wrong outcome. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 17:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but the standard is set so that bad-formatting does not go unnoticed. I can understand your point but the standard is there for a logical reason. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 17:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, good to see there is no problem there, it seems that there are three or four other editors out there who have reverted back to the ndash, following your edits on numerous football related articles. CorleoneSerpicoMontana (talk) 17:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bill Clinton

My point was that because he meets WP:BIO it doesn't matter if he doesn't strictly meet WP:ATHLETE - and that there are many, many people who meet WP:BIO without meeting WP:ATHLETE.

Although I think he does meet the intent WP:ATHLETE, as there are references that indicate he has been signed with the intent of playing on Norwich City's first team. Nfitz (talk) 22:52, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Any time I've tried to use Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Notability in an AfD discussion, I've been shouted down that it's just an essay and hasn't been accepted by the community at large. As far as Clinton goes, I'm simply noting that if one meets WP:N nothing else matters. Nfitz (talk) 01:30, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish prods

I'm afraid I've just deleted 3 out of 6 of new Turkish prods. Korcan Çelikay‎, Yusuf Soysal‎, and Fevzi Elmas‎. All appeared notable for reasons given in the edit summaries. I don't think any would survive an AfD, 2 of them had versions in other languages - and all had first or second tier appearances. The other 3 prods looked fine to me. Nfitz (talk) 06:56, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, there was a 7th Miloš Mihajlov - but someone deleted him from WP:WikiProject Football#Nominations for deletion and page moves after removing the Prod. Is that kocher? Nfitz (talk) 07:01, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Danijel Subotić

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Danijel Subotić, which you proposed for deletion, because I think that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

He just transferred to Belgium and will play next season there at the highest level (professional) with Zulte-Waregem... so it's silly to delete it now as that league is starting in two weeks and the article will be re-created anyway. I do agree the article could be improved, but I've seen many articles which are a lot worse too. --Pelotastalk 08:29, 8 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:ATHLETE:

"Competitors who have competed at the highest level in amateur sports [are notable]." I think it's safe to say his team is at the highest level in amateur sports. Why do you want to delete this article so badly? --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 18:15, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read it, and I thought that youth soccer (or association football) was considered an amateur sport since it was played by amateurs. Why don't you AfD the article? --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 18:50, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've ameneded the request for comment about the user Fasach Nua concerning his editing of 'National Football Team' articles.

Famous players template

I understand that you have been engaged in a row for some time with Fasach Nua, but have you got any reason for the wholesale deletion of this template. It makes the perfectly valid observation that lists with no clear criteria for inclusion cannot be regarded as seriously encyclopaedic. Do you actually disagree with this contention, or is it purely personal conflict? Kevin McE (talk) 21:50, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your response on my talk page seems to suggest the latter. Do you think that lists with no inclusion criteria are encyclopaedic: yes or no? Do you think that the lack of clear criteria helps maintain a NPOV policy: yes or no? Kevin McE (talk) 22:06, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your answers are still about Fasach Nua's method than any attempt to help him in improving the articles in question. What positive proposal have you got to make such sections fitting to an encyclopaedia? I would still appreciate your answer to the questions I have posed above. Kevin McE (talk) 09:18, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But you are not allowing for any stipulation of a criterion that determines which players are to be included in such a section, and which are not. That is what makes these lists meaningless. Why should we be invited to read on, for example, the Italy page about Luigi Cevenini, but not about Armando Castellazzi. This is what makes the lists so susceptible to POV, and therefore unencyclopaedic. Do you serious want to argue for a free for all whereby any editor can add any footballer who has made appearance that they happen to like, and claim them as notable, by the standards of that team? Unless you want that, there should be a clear inclusion criteria, and that is all that FN has been asking for. Why do you not think there should be such? Kevin McE (talk) 22:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain...

why would revert this without moving even it to the talk page? The editors that inserted this in the page seem that they have put in a lot of effort, and is quite unfair, at least to me, to see others revert everything without at least a minimal debate. Thanks, Do U(knome)? yes...or no 05:45, 24 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for clearing that up.

No sweat, it's all good. I'm new at this editing articles stuff.

Silental (talk) 03:54, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hubschrauber729. Instead of edit-warring on the template (which is now transcluded in many places), could you possibly direct your discussion to the talk page where it would be best served in order to reach a consensus on the wording? Right now it's confusing to the editors looking at this "warning" with the phrasing changing drastically twice a day. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:43, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you want a template to add to all notable players sections, then please make a seperate one to the one above. This is a very specific template relating to only those list without inclusion and exclusion criteria, it is not intended to be added in a blanket manor to all notable players sections as your version would suggest. CAÑIZARES - A question

Hi there HUBSCHRAUBER, VASCO here,

One question, my friend: I like to work as a team and, therefore, respect all other's work, unless they are downright vandals (in that case i don't respect them AT ALL and treat them accordingly).

Since i believe your edits were made in good faith, trying to help, i ask you: why did you remove, on SANTIAGO CAÑIZARES (Spanish footballer), a reference about him being kicked out of the squad by then-manager RONALD KOEMAN? I think it is important stuff, and if it was referenced...As i respect your work as i said before, i did not insert it again, leaving it as it was, but would like to see your points in this matter.

Here is your September 1, 2008 edit summary (http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Santiago_Ca%C3%B1izares&diff=235528947&oldid=234239532)

Thank you

Hi there HUBSCHRAUBER, VASCO here,

I left you a message on your talk page regarding SANTIAGO CAÑIZARES article, only asking why did you remove stuff, treating you politely and not accusing you of anything, only wanted to EXCHANGE IDEAS.

I see that you think different (you are not on a WIKIBREAK, since you continue to edit, so i am sure you saw my previous message), no worries, you will not be bothered again by this user (ME). Also, i assure that GOAL.COM link that you removed in said person's article will not be put there again (at least by me).

Have a good day, sorry to "bother" you, from PORTUGAL,

Apologies - CAÑIZARES

Hi there HUBSCHRAUBER, VASCO here

I sincerely want to apologize about my message titled "thank you". I looked everywhere and could not find your reply (and you did answer on SEPTEMBER 9). Now i found it, but not directly on USER TALK PAGE, but rather in its EDIT HISTORY. Strange, isn't it? Anyway, sorry if i was not very polite, but i tend to react a bit over-the-top when i do not get any reply in 5, 6 days. Nice teamwork, hope we can continue to WIKI-contribute.

A nice weekend, from PORTUGAL, Alles gut

The Israeli Kobi Hassan

The name Ya'akov (or its short form Kobi) is clearly Jewish. That's why it is correct to be included in the categories Israeli Jews and Jewish footballers. Btw please check this article in that web site: http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:yKI5yS8TFpQJ:old.kh-uia.org.il/Crisisnew/kh_activi/Israel_Events/7.5.08.htm+%22Yaakov+Hassan%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=4&gl=ca You will find the exact name Yaakov Hassan, an employee in the Jewish Agency. And please check Hassan (surname) to see that the surname Hassan can be Jewish, Irish and Arabic.

(Yadamavu (talk) 23:42, 16 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

But you also probably forgot that he was born in Israel. Where as we know the majority of the people are Jews. And the first name Yaakov clearly is not the Arabic version of the name. That's why we cannot count him as Israeli Arab (Palestinian). What background you think he has?

(Yadamavu (talk) 23:52, 16 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

The first name Yaakov clearly is not the Arabic version of the name. The Arabic version of the name is Yaqub or Yakub. That's why based on the first name we can conclude that he is Jewish. Based on his last name Hassan is difficult to say since it can be Irish, Arabic or Jewish.

(Yadamavu (talk) 23:58, 16 September 2008 (UTC))[reply]

David Abraham

I can see why why you don't think he's Jewish because he's from a mainly Catholic, Spanish-speaking nation, but he is. "David" - Common name all over the world but originated in Hebrew Israel. "Abraham" - Very Jewish name. I know that being Israeli doesn't necassarily mean that you are Jewish but when he's warming up before a match, he wears a necklace with a Star of David on it. Also, what do you mean by "how can you be of israeli descent, its not an ethnicity." Would you prefer "of Israeli origin" or something? - WölffReik —Preceding undated comment was added at 12:40, 19 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Michal Ballack

Hubschrauber, do you only allow for external links to Fussballdaten.de ? Michael Ballack recently a had a big announcement that he is blogging on Footbo.com This should be interesting enough for the community to know. If you undo my link, please explain why or refrain from doing so. 217.132.253.251 (talk) —Preceding undated comment was added at 07:54, 22 September 2008 (UTC).[reply]

Infoboxes

The reason why <br /> is used, rather than just <br>, is because if there's a long list of years without any breaking spaces, they go out past the right edge of the edit box and make it difficult for later editors to work on what is there. The guideline for using the infobox template can be found at Template:Infobox Football biography. Hope this helps, --Jimbo[online] 08:38, 22 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Arjan Beqaj

Hi, Hubschrauber.

First time I've interacted with another member of wikipedia so apologies if I've broken a rule or am asking this question in the wrong area.

I don't use wikipedia a great deal, just update certain stats really.

I was updating the Albania (Mens National Soccer) team & came across the goalkeeper Arjan Beqaj.

The English account of the Albanian national team has him born on 20/8/75 however his profile lists it as 20/8/76.

In other languages it seems to vary as well.

For his own profile the German & French pages has him as born in '76

The Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Finnish & Albanian has it as '75

I'm not sure if there is an Albanian Soccer section where I can ask this question so I had a look at the history of his profile...and you seemed prevalent in the editing.

Do you know which age is correct? Thanks, Slater582

Jewish footballers

TBH I'm in agreement with NYCTLV - your removal of a lot of Israeli footballers from the Jewish footballers category shows a certain lack of knowledge on your part regarding the religious persuasion of Israelis - there probably aren't any citations out there to prove their Jewishness because there is simply no question about it (they very clearly are). пﮟოьεԻ 57 08:05, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that this matter is being discussed at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#User:Hubschrauber729. I am also warning you regarding your edit summary here, and would remind you that Wikipedia is edited consensually. LessHeard vanU (talk) 20:48, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Again, you're showing a total lack of understanding of the issue. Being Jewish is not only a religious thing - it's also an ethnicity, people can be Jewish athiests - it's not necessarily about their beliefs. пﮟოьεԻ 57 20:54, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's no distinguishing between the two, unless there are subcats for athiest Jews and practising Jews. пﮟოьεԻ 57 21:35, 7 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Carlos Chacana

This footballer received Israeli citizenship due to the fact that his wife is Jewish. Otherwise, as a Christian, he was not eligible for Israeli citizenship. If a footballer was black and American, would you take out the Black Americans category? How come you don't target all the Chess players, politicians, artists etc. who are Jewish? Couldn't you at least wait for a resolution before targeting more of my edits? I doubt that you stumble upon these footballers on your own. -NYC2TLV (talk) 19:42, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
