Dying for It was the second release by Edinburgh alternative rock group The Vaselines, following their debut single Son of a Gun. Dying for It was later featured on their career-inclusive collection The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History.
Alternative rock figurehead Kurt Cobain of Nirvana listed the "Dying for It" single as his fourth favorite 'album' ever. He and Nirvana covered the song "Molly's Lips" from this EP, as well as "Son of a Gun", on their album Incesticide. They also performed 'Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam' at their famous MTV Unplugged in New York concert. (The name of their version of the song is Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam).
