This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Wikipedia, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to AfD or tagged with {{prod}}.

Standard procedures
If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Wikipedia, it can just be tagged with {{db-foreign}} to get added to Wikipedia:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Wikipedia and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation of an article from a foreign-language Wikipedia, the correct place to do that is Wikipedia:Translation. As an alternative, you can leave a message on the contributing users talk-page using the templates from Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English/Templates for user talk pages or using {{UE}}.
Sometimes, legitimate articles are replaced by foreign-language content. In this case, the last English-language version should be restored from the history.
If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to AfD. When moving items to AfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:afd}} and the other deletion steps should be carried out.
When listing a page here, you might want to find the Wikipedia:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Wikipedia that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Wikipedia. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails, some language recognition web site, such as xrce, or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Wikipedia, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.
Please check for copyvio before listing here. (Articles which meet the criteria for CSD G12 can be speedily deleted with {{db-copyvio}}, others copyvios should be listed on WP:CP.) If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help. Also consider posting the first line or so.
When a page listed here has been translated, its entry can be removed (or moved to cleanup if the translation needs another pair of eyes).

Boilerplate text
For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):
- 1. Use the notice {{Notenglish|NameOfLanguage}} if you know the language used, or {{Notenglish}} if you cannot identify the language of the page in question. The template will show up as:
This page needs translation into English. This page is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Wikipedia in that language. See the list of Wikipedias. |
- 2. Add a mention on this page, using:
- {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=NameOfLanguage| Comments= }}--~~~~ replacing NameOfLanguage with the English name of the language if you know which language was used, or {{subst:Needtrans| pg= | Language=unknown| Comments= }}--~~~~ if you cannot identify the language used
- 3. You may also choose to warn the contributing editor with {{Uw-english}}, the "use English" warning, or suggest to use a different language Wikipedia with {{contrib-xx1}}, where xx is the language code (available templates). An alternate template for identifying the article as having been listed here is {{uw-notenglish}}. Usage is {{subst:uw-notenglish|articlename|datein2weeksfromlisting}}~~~~.
If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:
- 1. Use [[Category:Wikipedia articles needing translation]].
- 2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
- ''Section [[#name-of-section|name-of-section]] contains text that needs translation into English.''.
- 3. Add a mention on this page.
If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:
- 1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
This article contains translated text and needs attention from someone with dual fluency. |
- 2. Add a mention to the translation cleanup section on this page.
Pages for consideration
and check the language recognition chart.
If you are sure, consider placing the corresponding template on the creator's talk page.

- More likely Persian because of the گ letter. Andreas (T) 22:14, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- Right again. Farsi. (FYI: گ is also used in Urdu, but 99% of the Arabic-script texts that are uploaded here are either Arabic or Farsi.) This one is about a monthly Internet newsmagazine. Could be spam but I didn't tag it. I think this is another one that should be transwikied to fa:Wikipedia. Let's see what happens to it there. --Cbdorsett (talk) 07:35, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

- I disagree. The text on the Tamil Wikipedia is completely different and lacks the picture we have. If there's no copyvio and if the article looks notable, it should be put in line for translation here. My first guess is that it's about a mosque, so maybe it's a tourist attraction. --Cbdorsett (talk) 06:04, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- Whoa, you disagree with what? Sorry to not fully identify the language I was moving quickly. I didn't nominate it nor do I think it should be deleted. I was just presenting it here as I saw it, perhaps it already exists on the EN.WP. This article contains untranslated titles of books - maybe Sanskrit, maybe Malayalam. Cbdorsett (talk) 12:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think it is Hausa. Kubek15 (Sign!) (Contribs) (UBX) 18:59, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hausa is an African language, this article is about an Indian astronomer though. Sanskrit could be it, since that was "Latin" of ancient India, the language of lore. De728631 (talk) 04:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
- It is Sanskrit, but the transliteration lost linguistic features such as vowel lengths and dental/cerebral consonant difference. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 17:45, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

The initial language of this article was unknown. Suspected machine translation of a foreign-language text Samuel Tan 02:49, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
- It was Spanish. You can find the original text by looking into the article's history. Cbdorsett (talk) 03:27, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
The initial language of this article was Italian. I've cleaned up the first paragraph but the remainder needs some work. It may have been machine-translated from the Italian wiki. Rilkas (talk) 01:05, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
The initial language of this article was Italian. I have cleaned up most of the translation here. Short article on Italian poet who wrote in Calabrian dialect. It needs a bit more copy-editing and formatting but is nearly done. The Italian original appears to have a little more text now which could be added. Rilkas (talk) 16:14, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
August 2008
The initial language of this article was French. Parts of this article, such as the introduction, were originally written in English, and don't need any translation cleanup. Later sections added toward the bottom of the article appear to have been translated from French. Matt Fitzpatrick (talk) 12:53, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
This seems to be about an Indian actor, but it's almost completely in English. Since there are many languages spoken in India and surrounding countries, I am unable to identify a few words that weren't translated. CB (ö) 11:22, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about this one. The untranslated text is solely the names of films and television shows. It would be nice to have English translations, but is it required? The language, by the way, seems to be Hindi/Urdu. --Cbdorsett (talk) 13:55, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
The language of this article is Spanish. Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 20:23, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Could he be that guy: Jorge Medina Vidal? De728631 (talk) 22:13, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- Answer to self: probably not, judging from the dates and Tamaulipas in Mexico. The article Vidal Medina is an exact copy though of a brandnew entry on the Spanish Wiki. De728631 (talk) 22:20, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- I tagged it for speedy delete A2. Cbdorsett (talk) 04:01, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I started a more precise translation (but I encourage someone to check the correct use of the words because I'm Italian, so I don't get the precise meaning of some expressions and I just mess up with some synonyms. I haven't finished the correction of the article but I will tomorrow or in the next days, please wait. In the DISCUSSION of the article you find some notes I posted with regards to Michele Cossato's page and corrections I made. Bye! (Brizz89 (talk) 22:42, 2 November 2008 (UTC)).
I finished the translation and removed the "automatic translation" tag, but I think the article needs a cleanup as regards the content. I will check that later, but if you have some suggestions you are welcome. --Brizz89 (talk) 15:27, 3 November 2008 (UTC)
This article contains untranslated Urdu (titles of books and songs). The Urdu is transliterated into Roman letters. --Cbdorsett (talk) 19:21, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

- Could be Yin Minshang, chairman of Chongqing Lifan football club. The characters appear next to a redlink on that page and 尹明善's author also posted something Chinese about the Lifan vehicle company (which I redirected).
- Edit: confirmed by Google translation. De728631 (talk) 19:42, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
I used the machine translation, which was surprisingly good to work with, and a few sources to shape this into a valid article. Needs checking though. De728631 (talk) 21:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
The initial language of this article was French. A biography of a current French band. As a native french speaker I can tell it's French from France. - I deleted all of the French because it comes from the French Wikipedia. The remaining English needs copyedit, so this article should now be moved to the bottom half of this page. I removed the translate tag but did not put a new one there (I don't know what the latest tags are for this). --Cbdorsett (talk) 14:18, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- I've done some copyediting. There is more detail in the French WP text that could be brought over. French WP has a list of sources of which one is what we might class as a reliable secondary source: Dictionnaire de biographie héraultaise – Pierre Clerc – Ed.Presses du Languedoc 2006. Still much more to be done to make this a useful part of a series on French medieval aristocracy. I tagged it for a history expert. Itsmejudith (talk) 10:42, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
