A farmer is a person who raises living organisms for food or raw materials. This is a way of life that had long been the dominant occupation of human beings since the dawn of civilization. A person who farms for pleasure rather than income is called a gentleman-farmer. Related, but much different, is gardening. "Farmer" is usually distinct from a farmworker.
