I can't claim credit for any of these images, just finding and uploading them. Some of lovely, and one is bizarre. What do you give the girl who has everything?

  Brisbane born actress Diane Cilento. Weird connection - her parents, Sir Raphael and Lady Phyllis Cilento are buried next to my father, so any time I see Diane Cilento in a film (which is not that often), I always think "oh, there she is". Watching The Wicker Man recently, I found her distracting.
• 
  John Wayne visited my home town during World War II. I wasn't around to see it, but this photograph was taken within walking distance of where I grew up.
• 
  Gary Cooper also visited, with Phyllis Brooks and Una Merkel
• 
  and later, Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier
• 
  so the people of Brisbane got together and presented Vivien Leigh with a pineapple. WTF??
• 
  Sybil Thorndike too. Not sure if she was presented with a pineapple.

  Thelma Ritter - what a face! And what a great performer.

  Frances Langford - a bit Venus de Milo, but mighty purty.

  Agnes Moorehead, a favourite.
• 
  Marion Martin - this image encapsulates for me, all the minor forgotten thirties musicals that had such style.
