The plot follows the main character, Sam Tallon, a secret agent from Earth on the former Earth colony planet Emm Luther who, after having been captured by Emm Luther authorities, blinded and jailed, manages to escape having built a contraption to see through the eyes of other people or animals, cross the single continent of Emm Luther, board a spaceship and master the intricacies of the geometry of "null-space" (a parallel universe passing through which instantaneous space travel is achieved).
