My image gallery
These are photographs that I've taken and have added to Wikipedia articles. There are not many - other people have beaten me to it, in most cases.
-
Carole Lombard's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame taken August 1995.
-
Myrna Loy's contribution to the forecourt of Grauman's Chinese Theatre taken August 1995.
-
The main facade of the building where Anne Frank and her family hid during the Second World War, in Amsterdam. Photo taken August 2002.
-
Statue of Anne Frank, near the Westerkerk, which is also near Anne Frank House. Taken in August 2002.
-
Front entrance to Auschwitz concentration camp, photo taken September 2002.
-
Ruins at Auschwitz concentration camp, taken on the same day as previous photo.
-
onto something a bit happier. I love this photo of jacaranda trees in bloom, in Wooroolin, Queensland, Australia. Taken October 22, 2005
-
more blooming jacarandas in the backyard of some very good friends of mine. October 22, 2005
-
Peanut silos in Kingaroy, Queensland, love the blue sky of an Australian summer! October 22, 2005
-
View from a Kingaroy vineyard looking into the Burnett Valley, Kingaroy, Australia. October 22, 2005
Other images
I can't claim credit for any of these images, just finding and uploading them. Some are lovely, and one is bizarre. What do you give the girl who has everything?
-
Brisbane born actress Diane Cilento. Weird connection - her parents, Sir Raphael and Lady Phyllis Cilento are buried next to my father, so any time I see Diane Cilento in a film (which is not that often), I think "oh, there she is". Watching The Wicker Man recently, I found her distracting for this reason.
-
John Wayne visited my home town during World War II. I wasn't around to see it, but this photograph was taken within walking distance of where I grew up.
Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh
Pictures from their 1948 visit to Brisbane.
Screenshots and such
These are public domain screenshots that I have found and uploaded, and my total Commons upload history can be viewed here here. There are quite a few of them but I'll just a highlight a few that I quite like.
-
two of my favourite performers, Fredric March and Carole Lombard in one of my favourite films, Nothing Sacred (1937)
-
and again. Carole deserves at least two pictures.
-
Marilyn Monroe in The Prince and the Showgirl (1957). A beautiful image of her not looking like a sex-pot.
-
Jo Van Fleet in East of Eden (1955). A memorable performance, and a nice menacing image.
-
Roland Young in Topper Returns. The original Topper was a better film, but I like this image.
-
Lana Turner in The Postman Always Rings Twice. I don't even like Lana Turner, but again, it's the picture I like.
-
Thelma Ritter - what a face! And what a great performer.
-
Frances Langford - a bit Venus de Milo, but mighty purty.
-
Agnes Moorehead, a favourite.
-
Marion Martin - this image encapsulates for me, all the minor forgotten thirties musicals that had such style.
