Conflict of interest?
If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with;
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors;
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam); and,
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for businesses. For more details about what, exactly, constitutes a conflict of interest, please see our conflict of interest guidelines. Thank you. --Ronz (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Getting started with Wikipedia
Thanks for the note. I think you can be a very valuable contributor to Wikipedia. WP:COI is more of a aggravating issue than a problem itself. We all have conflicts of interest. How we manage them is what matters.
I think your plans on what to do next are fairly good, though you'll be walking the line a bit. Wikipedia talk:Conflict of interest, WP:COIN, and Wikipedia talk:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard are good places to get opinions on how to edit with a conflict of interest.
I also highly recommend reading WLU's overview of Wikipedia for new editors. Wikipedia is a big place. Anyone can edit and we encourage ignoring all rules that prevent you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia. However, there are a lot of rules, some very strict, most not so strict, all created to guide editors on how to make valuable contributions to Wikipedia. --Ronz (talk) 16:50, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Label Dispensers
What I did notice is the label dispenser page was clearly made by one of the manufacturing compteitors. There are many references to specific good/not good sceanrios (IE Plastic/Metal, photo eye, etc etc) Which is what initiated my edit to begin with. I will try to edit the page to include both technologies without the good/not good scenario that is currently there. Mnemonikc (talk) 19:42, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
- I added a couple of tags to identify the worst problems. I'm guessing you probably know of good references we could use to verify what's there or use to expand the article. If you just want to list some on the article talk page first, I'll go over them and help determine where they could be used. --Ronz (talk) 20:00, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
