MGM Grand Garden Arena is located in the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, and is patterned after New York's Madison Square Garden.[citation needed] The arena has a seating capacity of 17,157 people and is located at 3799 Las Vegas Boulevard South.

Notable events hosted

The MGM Grand Garden Arena has held events such as the FOX Billboard Music Awards, the Andre Agassi Grand Slam for Children Benefit, the VH1 Divas Las Vegas shows, and other sporting and special events such boxing and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) PPV events. From 1996-2000, it hosted wrestling's WCW Halloween Havoc PPV event. The UWF television event Backjack Brawl was held at the venue in 1994. For the last three years it has held the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMA)in May.

Athletic Events

In 1994, the Las Vegas Dustdevils an indoor soccer team in the Continental Indoor Soccer League played one season in the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The arena also serves as the pre-season home for select Los Angeles Kings home games against the Colorado Avalanche known as the Frozen Fury.

Concerts

Cher performed twice in 1999 for her highly-successful "Do You Believe? Tour" and later released a VHS titled Live in Concert.

Barbra Streisand christened the arena by performing two concerts on December 31, 1993 and January 1, 1994. At the time, the concerts were her first for paying customers in close to twenty-seven years. She would return to the Grand Garden Arena two more times: ringing in the Millennium on December 31, 1999 and January 1, 2000 and a November 18 stop on her 2006 concert tour.

Madonna has played two dates from all her past tours since 2001. Starting with her Drowned World Tour in 2001 up until her most recent tour Sticky and Sweet Tour in 2008.

Janet Jackson played one night at the Arena on August 29, 1998, as part of her sold-out tour The Velvet Rope Tour. The show sold out in 13 minutes, setting a personal record, previously held by her 1990 concert at the Los Angeles' Great Western Forum, from her Rhythm Nation 1814 Tour, which sold out in 18 minutes. Jackson returned in 2001 for two consecutive concerts on October 5 and October 6 as part of her All for You Tour. Her first concert date at the arena though was on April 16, 1994 while on her janet. Tour. She was the first "Popstar" to perform at the arena.

Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake performed simultaneously as part of their co-headlining tour Justified and Stripped Tour in June of 2003. Justin would later return in 2007 as a solo act. Christina is set to return to the famous arena in 2009 as a solo act.

Mariah Carey performed at the arena in 2006 during the Emancipation of Mimi Tour.

On November 18, 2001, Britney Spears broadcast her concert live on HBO and attracted huge ratings. The concert was part of her Dream Within a Dream Tour. In order for the broadcast to work with the time differences, Spears performed at five o'clock at night. Spears performed at the Garden once during her Oops!... I Did It Again World Tour, twice during her Dream Within a Dream Tour, once during her Onyx Hotel Tour, and is set to return once during her The Circus Starring: Britney Spears Tour. All five shows sold out almost instantly.

Dave Matthews Band played two nights at the Grand Garden Arena on March 23 & 24, 2007. Both shows were released on June 5, 2007 as part of the DMB Live Trax series, as Live Trax 9.

Famous Iranian popstar, Googoosh performed in the arena for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day of 2000 as part of her Googoosh Comeback Tour.

British pop group The Spice Girls announced on June 28, 2007 that they would be going on an 11-city world tour, including a stop at the MGM Grand Garden. The Las Vegas arena is one of 21 North American stops on their much-anticipated reunion tour, however their performance at the MGM has now been moved to accommodate the Ricky Hatton - Floyd Mayweather fight.

The newly reconstituted Van Halen with legendary frontman David Lee Roth are booked for two shows at the Garden Arena on December 28 and 30, 2007.

Miley Cyrus extended her successful Best of Both Worlds Tour and performed for three nights at the arena, with guest stars Aly & AJ who took over the Jonas Brothers.
