Darren Aronofsky (born February 12, 1969) is an American film director.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York. After high school, Darren went to Harvard University and studied anthropology, live action film and animation. He attended the AFI Conservatory and graduated with an M.F.A. degree in 1992. In 1996 he began creating the concept for his first feature film π, released in 1998. After that he directed the well-received, cult favorite, Requiem for a Dream in 2000. In 2002 his project The Fountain was days away from the start of filming when star Brad Pitt pulled out. In 2005 The Fountain was resurrected with new stars Hugh Jackman, Ellen Burstyn and fiancée Rachel Weisz.
