Leo is the fifth astrological sign of the Zodiac, originating from the constellation of Leo. In western astrology, this sign is no longer aligned with the constellation as a result of the precession of the equinoxes. In astrology, Leo is considered to be a "hot", positive (extrovert) sign. It is also considered a fire sign and is one of four fixed signs.[3] Leo is ruled by the Sun.

Individuals born when the Sun was in this sign are considered Leo individuals. Under the tropical zodiac, the Sun is in Leo roughly from July 23 to August 22.[4] Under the sidereal zodiac, it is currently there roughly from August 17 to September 16.

Mythology

Leo is a symbol for the Nemean Lion that was slain by Heracles (Hercules). Zeus raised the lion to the stars in honor of Hercules.

In mythology Leo is associated with the Greco-Roman god Apollo and sometimes also the gods Helios/Sol, Ra, and Huitzilopochtli and the goddess Sunna.[5]

The astrological symbol or glyph for Leo represents the head and mane of the lion.[6]

Compatibilities

Template:Unencyclopedic

Leo is widely thought to be compatible with same element signs, Aries[11][12] and Sagittarius[11][12][11][12]. Gemini and Libra make a good match as well.[13] It can be excellent with Taurus, although the relationship may need some work as both signs can be very stubborn, and should instead try to understand and accept each other. [14][15][15]

There are many variables that determine compatibility in astrology, such as birth dates, birth months, birth years, position of a sign within the Sun, the Moon, Stars, etc. The signs listed as compatible with Leo do not reflect an individual profile or individual reading as interpreted within astrology, but rather reflect a general guideline and reference to compatibility as dictated by variables such as Qualities and Elements within the Zodiac.
