Mons Venus is a nude lap dancing strip club in Tampa, Florida. It is one of the most famous strip clubs[1] in the United States known both for both the quality of its dancers and the public image of its owner Joe Redner.[2]
The club and its owner, Joe Redner, have frequently been engaged in legal battles with the Tampa City Council, which has tried to place restrictions on the industry for 25 years.[3] Redner's advocacy group Voice of Freedom was originally created to chronicle these actions. Mons Venus and Redner have filed law suits that have reached the Supreme Court and have become case law in many court cases.[4]
A unique aspect of Mons Venus is the up-front pricing. Unlike its contemporaries, the club has signs clearly posted reflecting the $20-$30 price for lap dances. While other establishments encourage patrons to visit the "champagne room", a $30 dance is the most expensive activity available.
Furthermore, Mons Venus (like other Tampa strip clubs) permits its customers to touch and even fondle dancers, as long as there is no genital contact.
The Mons Venus is frequented by many visiting celebrities[5][6] Kevin Hayden paid homage to the club in his epic "Hey Hey, It's Kevin!" debut album. Mons Venus, is a recurring lyrical character throughout songs in Betty X's lyrics named after the club.[citation needed]
