"Saving All My Love for You"
Song
B-side"Nobody Loves Me Like You Do"

"Saving All My Love for You" is the second hit single from Whitney Houston's self-titled debut album. This jazzy ballad (released in August 1985) is about a love affair with a married man, and the singer is "saving all her love for him". The song was written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin, and was also a minor hit for Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. in 1978 on their album Marilyn & Billy (although Davis’ voice was not heard on their version).

Music video

The music video, directed by Stuart Orme, was filmed in London, and features Houston singing and recording with her married music producer, and falling in love with him along the way.

Chart performances

Released in 1985, "Saving All My Love For You" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at an impressive #53, jumping to #39 the following week (August 24), and reaching the Top 10 five weeks later. The single reached the number-one spot the week of October 26, 1985, and became the first of seven record-holding consecutive number-one singles in the United States for Houston. The single eventually spent fifteen weeks in the top forty. The song also became a global hit, hitting number-one or the Top 10 in various countries around the world. It also hit number-one on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

In the UK the song hit number one in December 1985 for 2 weeks. The single went on to become one of the top 25 best-selling singles of 1985 in the UK. On the Australian Singles Chart, the single went to number-one where it stayed for two weeks.
