He heads the Music Cognition Group (MCG), part of the Department of Musicology, the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC), Cognitive Science Center Amsterdam (CSCA), and the University of Amsterdam (UvA), and conducts research in music cognition using theoretical, empirical and computational methods.
