Alice in Wonderland is a 2010 fantasy film directed by Tim Burton and based on the Lewis Carroll novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The film will utilize a technique combining live action, motion capture technology and stop motion. Mia Wasikowska will portray Alice and the film is due for release on March 19, 2010.

- Anne Hathaway as the White Queen. Her character does not require digital manipulation.[5] Hathaway summed up her character with a caption on a magnet of a rabbit holding a knife she was given; "Cute but psycho, it evens out."[6]
- Michael Sheen as the White Rabbit.[7]
- Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar. Rickman was filmed while recording his voice in a studio, and his face will be composited onto a computer-generated character.[4]
- Stephen Fry as the Cheshire Cat. [8]
- Matt Lucas as Tweedledum and Tweedledee[9]
- Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts, Who is put on trail for stealing The Queen of Heart's Tarts.[2]

Production
Joe Roth was developing Alice in Wonderland in April 2007 at Walt Disney Pictures with Linda Woolverton as screenwriter.[16] Woolverton added a socio-political context to the story.[1] That November, Tim Burton signed with Disney to direct two films in Disney Digital 3-D, which included Alice in Wonderland.[17] Burton dislikes the 1951 Disney film adaptation. He explained "the goal is to try to make it an engaging movie where you get some of the psychology and kind of bring a freshness but also keep the classic nature of Alice." He also felt 3-D was appropriate to the story's environment.[3] The film was originally to be released in 2009, but was pushed to March 19, 2010.[18]
The original start date was May 2008,[17] but filming did not begin until September. Scenes set in the Victorian era were shot at Torpoint and Plymouth from September 1—October 14. Two hundred and fifty local extras were chosen in early-August. Locations included Antony House in Torpoint, Charlestown, Cornwall and the Barbican.[19][20] Motion capture filming began in early October,[9] at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California.[1] Sony Pictures Imageworks is designing the visual effects sequences.[21] Burton and Zanuck chose to film with conventional cameras, and convert the footage into 3D later; Zanuck explained 3D cameras were too expensive and "clumsy" to use, and decided there was no difference between converted footage and those shot in the format.[22] Filming also took place at Culver Studios.[23]
