Rasipuram is a municipal corporation in Namakkal district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town 27 km (16.5 miles) from Salem, India.

History

Rasipuram is a historic town dating back to at least the 1st century. Rasipuram got its name from Raajapuram which literally means King's town. Rasipuram is famous for its mouth watering ghee, .

Geography

Rasipuram is located at 11°28′N 78°10′E / 11.47°N 78.17°E / 11.47; 78.17[1]. It has an average elevation of 246 metres (807 feet).

Kolli hills is located exactly 54 km from Rasipuram, which is a notable place to relax. for a day trip, that has around 70 hairpin bends but no decent hotels to stay there. But lot of medicine plants and fruit varieties likes Jack, Pineapple, bannana are available. Valvil Ori festival will be celebrated to highlight the indigenous traditions, culture and values of tribal people living in the hills.

Other important place is Bodhamalai situated 6 km from Rasipuram. It has a famous Boodamalai of the hill with a access by walk of 6~7 km from any side of the hill.

There are ancient temples in and around Rasipuram. Shiva temple was build by the king Valvil Ori.
