Ergon is a corporation owned by the Government of Queensland. It supplies electricity to Queenslanders outside the metropolitan southeast through a distribution network and retail activities.
In 2006 the Queensland Government announced plans to privatise part of the business, with the sale of approximately 50 000 contestable electricity customers and retailer trading activities to AGL taking place in 2007. Smaller electricity customers which are not economic continue to be billed by Ergon Energy and the electricity distribution network remains in public ownership.
Ergon completed a $4.5 million project, building five 14 metre dish which will produce between 300,000[1] to 360,000 KWH[2]. This will save the community 100,000 litres a year in diesel fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emmisions by 300[3] to 350[4] tonnes of carbon dioxide.
