Elekid (エレキッド in Japanese, Elekid in French, ??? in German) is a fictional character from the Pokémon franchise. It is the baby form of Electabuzz, akin to Pokémon such as Smoochum (baby form of Jynx) and Magby (baby form of Magmar). Elekid was one of two toys not sold in the New York Pokémon Center due to its plug-shaped head. (children could easily plug the toy into a power socket)

The name "Elekid" is derived from "electric" and "kid". The first half of its name could also be derived from its evolved form, "Electabuzz", to show relation.

Biology

Elekid's electrical nature is well illustrated in its appearance. Elekid's horns resemble a plug. Additionally, an obvious lightning-bolt symbol appears on Elekid's chest. Elekid is not afraid of lightning and thunder; it jovially plays games in thunder storms.

Typical of baby Pokémon, Elekid tires very easily from physical activity. This is most unfortunate, as Elekid generates internal electric energy by rotating its arms. Its arms grow weak quickly, so it can only charge a little each time. As it charges electricity, the space between its horns flickers a bluish-white.

Touching a metal object will result in Elekid discharging all of its energy. This can be considered Elekid's weakness, despite Electric-type attacks being effective against Steel-types.

In the video games

Elekid first appeared in Pokémon Gold, Silver, and Crystal. It can only be obtained by breeding. A female Electabuzz must be breed with a compatible Pokémon to create an Elekid egg. In Pokemon XD a scientist at Outskirt Stand will give players a Shadow Togepi to purify. Once purified, Togepi can be traded with the scientist for an Elekid. But since an Electabuzz can be snagged later in the game, it might not be a good idea to trade the Togepi since it's the only one in the game.

Like most baby-Pokémon, Elekid is not much of a battler. However, its Speed stat is very high, but still not exceeding Electabuzz's speed.

In the animé

Elekid was one of the first Johto Pokémon to appear, first being seen in Pikachu's Rescue Adventure.

Later in Johto, Casey captures one, which appears with her in Pokémon Chronicles.

In other properties

In the card game

Elekid first appears in the Neo Genesis set of the Pokémon Trading Card Game as one of the first Baby Pokémon. This card did not have any moves, only a Pokémon Power which worked the same as an attack, except that Elekid could use it while on the bench.

Elekid has since appeared in the following sets:

  • Aquapolis
  • EX Sandstorm
  • EX Unseen Forces
