Arindam Chaudhuri is an Indian economist and (pseudo) management consultant, Honorary Dean at IIPM, founder of the charity The Great Indian Dream Foundation[1] and the Planman group of companies.[2]
Biography
On completing his Post Graduate Diploma in Planning and Entrepreneurship from The Indian Institute of Planning and Management in 1992 (an institution founded by Dr. M. K. Chaudhuri, his father, in 1972), Arindam Chaudhuri was awarded the Academic Gold Medal. He joined IIPM on completion of the course, where he is currently the Honorary Dean for Centre for Economic Research and Advanced Studies. He was appointed as a member of the Consultative Committee for the Planning Commission of India in 2004 - [1]. The most interesting thing to note here is that he has got most of his degrees from his own institute.
Awards
He is the recipient of the following awards:
- The Priyadarshini Memorial Award for Excellent contribution to Management from the Priyadarshini Academy, Mumbai, India in 2006[3][4]
- Example to Youth award from the Rotaract Club of India in 2004[5]
- Personality of the Decade Award from the KG Foundation in 2003[6]
- 50 Leading thinkers in South Asia by Wilton Park in 2001[7][8]
- The Management Guru Award from the Om Venkatesa Society, Chennai, India in 2000[8]
Publications
Arindam Chaudhuri has published three books:
- ''Planning India'', an essay on how government and society should focus on policies that benefit the bottom 80% of society.
- ''Count your chickens before they hatch'', a self-help guide.
- ''The Great Indian Dream'', (co-authored with his father Dr. Malay Chaudhuri) a compilation of essays on how India can grow at over 10% to create per capita income levels of a developed country by 2025.
His Planman Group of Companies also publishes three magazines:
- Business & Economy, a fortnightly business and policy magazine
- 4Ps, a fortnighly magazine on corporate news and issues
- The Sunday Indian, a news weekly in English and 14 other Indian languages
- The Indian PC Magazine, a monthly magazine licensed from the global PC Magazine
- The Human Factor, a monthly magazine on human resources and related issues
Planman group of companies
In 1996, Arindam Chaudhuri founded Planman Consulting, a management consultancy. In 2001, he founded Planman Motion Pictures, a film production company, which has till now produced movies like Saanjbathir Roopkathara[9] and Dosor[10] in Bengali, Faltu[11], Rok Sako To Rok Lo[12] in Hindi, The Last Lear[13] (with Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta in leading roles, directed by Rituparno Ghosh), Mithya[14] (directed by Rajat Kapoor, with Ranvir Shourie in a leading role), and Sunglass[13] (with Madhavan in a leading role). In 2004, Arindam Chaudhuri founded Planman I:TES (renamed in 2006 as Planman Technologies), an IT services company and Planman Life, an advertising and television production company.
Great Indian Dream Foundation
In 2002, Arindam Chaudhuri founded the charity The Great Indian Dream Foundation. It works in over three hundred villages in rural India to achieve its objectives of universal education and employment and eradicating poverty, according to its website.
Controversy
IIPM and Arindam have regularly been part of various controversies.[2]
