Revision as of 17:32, 7 March 2009

This page is where exchange comments with friends and other editors. All users are welcome to leave a message. Unless you state otherwise, I'll assume we are (or can be) friends. Feel free to leave any notes, suggestions, complaints, or anything else. I respond to almost anything reasonable, (but I'll only respond to vandalism or stupidity if it's funny). After archives, some items maintained due to value.

The orange "New messages" banner is useful. If you want my attention, edit this page. If I want your attention, I will edit your page. I'll reply here out of politeness, so I won't interrupt whatever you're doing. If you're interested in what I said, watch this page and find out. If a reply appears to be important to you, I'll likely copy it to your talk page. If you prefer to keep talk on your page, copy the {{tb}} tag and paste it here. I like to get messages, but the bottom line is: It doesn't really matter to me where you leave it, And if you have something to say you would like me to read, the big yellow banner is kind of hard to miss...

In answer to your first question, nope, you don't need references on your userpage. You may put any information you like on your userpage, as long as it doesn't violate your privacy. In answer to your second question, there are the Wikipedia IRC channels which may also be helpful.

Communication

Hey, just read the Communication subpage you created, and I just wanted to say it is absolutely fantastic! Very appropriate and truly accurate. I really hope others (both new here and "old-timers") will find and read that essay. If nothing similar exists in terms of Wiki essays (and I don't immediately see anything), I may have to get you to prettify it, move it to the Wikipedia: space and place it in Category:Wikipedia essays. Huntster (t@c) 10:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Hey, any time. You've obviously got brains and drive, and that is very welcome around here. Before tucking it into the main essays category, it should probably be looked at by a variety of others to pull additional opinions. Do you use IRC? Wikipedia editors/admins/lurkers have a strong presence on Freenode...you can get a lot of second and third opinions there. Huntster (t@c) 11:51, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Norton Articles Sup tag?

What is a "sup" tag? TechOutsider (talk) 21:49, 27 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

"sup" is a tag that tells the embedded text to display as superscript. When it was used in conjunction with the ref tag - it caused a funkey alignment for the sentence, and was the likely culprit for the spacing issues in that paragraph. There is sup, and sub - sub is a subscript (footnote kind of thing) example.
  • If I have this text - and I put the sup tags around it like this
    • If I have this text ... it will look like
      • If I have this text

The sub I mentioned puts it at the bottom. Hope that helps — Ched (talk) 22:01, 27 February 2009 (UTC)

GA review .. how bout it?

Are you willing to do the GA review? You qualify; you obviously aren't a die-hard Symantec supporter; you just used their products a little in the 90s because you had too, right? And you didn't make that many changes to the article. TechOutsider (talk) 01:36, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

I'm not a member of any official assessment team or anything, but sure - drop me a link, and I'll be happy to contribute. As far as my knowledge of Norton, when I was an network admin in the 90's, we ran Norton for a while, and now, as a self-employed "tech", I see it a couple times a week or so doing house-calls for computer related services. I've run into v2009 a couple times in the last month or so, and I'm impressed - great improvements - but no, I haven't installed it on any of my personal computers. You doing a peer review, or going to one of those assessment boards? Either way, drop me a link and I'd be happy to help. ;) — Ched (talk) 01:46, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
It's a GA nomination. The talk page is here. [[1]]
About v2009. As with all security suites, it's boring after the hype wears out. Right now, it just sits in my tray staring back at me. Before, I would click and provoke the tray icon at least 120 times a minute. So I started using Kaspersky on my Windows 7 side ... got boring, now switched to Nod32 v4 beta. Both Kaspersky and Nod are actually nice; however I don't feel like replacing NAV09 on my productivity side (Windows XP); it's such an integral part of my computer and switching would mean a big learning curve for the other users of my computer. Have you heard about Norton 360 v3 yet? Don't buy it; it feels like a mess, honestly. Just NIS's features and menus pasted all over the place. Psh. With a highlighter yello interface. Horrible. I'm open to other security suites. TechOutsider (talk) 02:32, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Norton Internet Security MAC ed. The only reason this article could fail GA is because of the MAC section. Can you help expand that particular section; I'm deaf to the article's shortcomings after my hundreds of edits. TechOutsider (talk) 02:51, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

(ec) I'll take a look late Sunday - I'll be busy all day tomorrow with Red Cross (First Aid, CPR) training classes and such. Then I have a few jobs to do in the evening - one quite elderly lady requires taking a bit of time explaining why POP and HTML mail is different. But I will look at it. Also have that Trojan merge I need to get done, and new article Shutdown Day that I'm working on. Then there's the Malwarebytes article that I found some good info on, want to get that updated too. I'm not sure how one gets behind in volunteer work, but somehow I seem to have managed ... LOL. — Ched (talk) 02:59, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Ha nice article. TechOutsider (talk) 05:25, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Just filling up your talk page

I remember when we clashed over the Norton articles .... back when I was slightly biased. I remember the first time you ventured to communicate with me. And look at us now :) TechOutsider (talk) 02:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

<* smiles *> .. yep, sometimes it's a little harder with text than it is sitting at the bar havin a beer, cause you can't tell the tone of voice in what someone is writing. You're a good editor, and you've learned a ton since starting, I'm proud to know you. Just curious, are you in the USA? ... none of my business - just wondered. — Ched (talk) 03:02, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Yep; I've learned a lot. I didn't know how to make a line like his before (|), and recently I found out. I didn't know how to reference; i just used external links. Now I know. I didn't know how to make a wikitable. Now I do! Yay! TechOutsider (talk) 05:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Fail

Talk:Norton_Internet_Security/GA2. Everything was good except for fact NAV was to be merged into the NIS article! Argh! I'm really going to have trouble diff. between the two since their feature set changes each year. TechOutsider (talk) 05:35, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

More specific. How do I merge the system requirements; both have different requirements? Could I do like a ...

256/512 MB RAM needed; where the first # applies to NAV and the second # goes for NIS?

Alternatively, could I just make NAV a little subsection on the bottom, removing all of the version history except for the 2009 version information? TechOutsider (talk) 05:40, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

And of course, what to name the new article? Norton Internet Security/Norton AntiVirus. Or could I just make redirect pages? TechOutsider (talk) 05:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Hmmm ... not sure - I was just looking at the review. Something about the closer. Only been here a couple weeks?... I don't think so! Someone that knows their way around pretty well. Not that it's important, but yea - a merge at this point could be tough. Not sure I'd put AV at the bottom, but yea would need to create a section, and several subsections. The tough part's going to be cleaning out the dup stuff. — Ched (talk) 05:45, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Norton security products? ... don't know, but that can be done after the merge. — Ched (talk) 05:45, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
Don't forget about Norton 360. I may have to merge that as well. I see that you have rollback capabilities; you may have to use them. How bout under Version History, at the bottom, I just say taht NAV has everything mentioned above cept' for .... Or should I make NAV come first and then at the bottom say NIS has all of the above + ... ?TechOutsider (talk) 15:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
Ok, everything's going somewhat smoothly now :) Thanks for all your help! I am receiving a lot of support. TechOutsider (talk) 15:58, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
Hey Tech, I don't use rollback for that kind of thing - rollback is only for very clear cases of vandalism. Don't worry too much about the merges yet (other than the one of Trojans -- and I'm about 1/2 through that one. Just because 1 editor says one article should be merged - doesn't make it so. I'm still a little in doubt about that last article assessment thing - not sure that holds water. Wish I could do a checkuser on that editor - it's someone that's been around - but has created a new account. I'll take a closer look at NIS, NAV, and 360 later tonight. Yep, there's a lot of great folks here that can and will help - no doubt! — Ched (talk) 20:50, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Norton II: Software Info Box

How many software info boxes should/can I have? TechOutsider (talk) 21:50, 28 February 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Well, I'm not sure I agree with merging the two pages, but I would have one box for NIS and one for NAV. — Ched ~ (yes?) 00:27, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Well that's the reason why GA status is on hold. Can I challenge? However, I agree; the two articles should be merged. TechOutsider (talk) 03:03, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
OH ... You think the two article the other. The GA review doesn't need to be "challenged" as such. All editors are encouraged to state their viewpoints, I've just made a comment myself. In the end, it will depend upon consensus. Now if you can figure that one out - you're better than most folks here ... LOL. — Ched ~ (yes?) 03:16, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
No. The ga review specifically mentioned to merge the two articles. Ok, I read the ga talk page, and you got it right. I agree with merging and I've already done so much. I think that they both share a common thread and merging is actually best. Anyways, I need help developing the opening statement for the newly merged article ...

TechOutsider (talk) 03:19, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

umm .. ok? That means you want to merge them? — Ched ~ (yes?) 03:22, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes. I actually do. It has always been a pain to "sync" the two articles. TechOutsider (talk) 03:24, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
OK... then go ahead and start copying the stuff from NAV over to NIS - when you're done, PROD NAV. From what I can see in a brief skim through, I'll admit that the bulk of NIS is actually NAV, with the firewall and spam filter thrown in. I understand why you think the merge makes sense. — Ched ~ (yes?) 03:33, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
About the software infobox ... do I just put them on top of one another? The only thing that varies is the picture ... Can I have two pics? Or should I just illustrate NAV later in the article? TechOutsider (talk) 03:35, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
I'd just use one info box, if the pic is that much different - use it further along in the article. I wouldn't put a second info box for NAV, I just note the differences in the section covering NAV. — Ched ~ (yes?) 03:39, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Naming the article

What should I name the new article? I'm just going to move it so the wikilinks that link to the article aren't suddenly outdated. TechOutsider (talk) 03:51, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

I'm thinking about Norton from Symantec; that's their logo.TechOutsider (talk) 03:56, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
Do a RfC first - see what others think. Let me know the link when you do. If you want me to do it, let me know. — Ched ~ (yes?) 04:01, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Yes please; I am not familiar with the process. TechOutsider (talk) 04:06, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
If you are done, where can I find the Rfc? If you aren't, don't rush. TechOutsider (talk) 15:43, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider
Will post it here shortly (as in within the next couple hours) - have you got everything copied over yet? I'm also looking into the whole "Pass" / "Fail" thing on GA - getting some feedback on that.

I replied on my talk page. I notice that you're planning this article on Heidelberg Raceway. I'd love to help! It was one of the original NASCAR tracks for Strictly Stock's (now Sprint Cup) first season! Of course I have lots of sources for a track that important. I'd expect it to be an easy WP:DYK. Royalbroil 05:11, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Sure, glad to help on Heidelberg. Is it okay for me to work on it in your sandbox? When I'm done, should I move it to mainspace to preserve the edit history? I've put significant effort into Tim Richmond lately. It was in sad shape. I'm closing in on nominating it for WP:GA. Royalbroil 05:33, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
The track held 4 Sprint Cup events (as Strictly Stock and Grand National) plus 1 NASCAR Convertible race [2]. That makes it inherently notable. It was an original NASCAR track. I've found enough independent reliable sources that it won't matter anyhow. Yes, I know OrangeMike - even before he was an admin. We worked together at WikiProject Wisconsin. Royalbroil 05:49, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
I've done a lot of the work on the older drivers! About the deleting of userpages - I noticed a least a week ago that something was going on in the deletion log. I'm like you - I don't worry about what other people are doing here in situations like this. I hate political things like that. I think that why so many other people come and go - they get caught up and worried about situations like this. Royalbroil 06:09, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
Cool, and very good advice too. Huntster told me the same thing, (and I pretty much have blind faith in him), so I moved the AN stuff off my watchlist. I have to plead guilty to peeking in every once in a while, just to see what's going on though. Making a note to myself to stop doing that! ;) I'll dig out my NASCAR books next week, and start getting involved there shortly. I do want to get a one sentence stub Shutdown Day propped up a bit too. I live about 7 miles from where Heidelberg used to be, and grew up at the track, so I look forward to working on the article with you. ;) reply— Ched ~ (yes?) 06:20, 1 March 2009 (UTC) (note: deleted my drama page)

Tim Richmond

I guess I accidentally didn't save my reply yesterday. About the AK article - go for it! As far as I'm concerned it's not complete. Of course, what article is truly complete! There were several statements that I had to remove because I couldn't source them. If you want to meet up at Slinger, email me by hitting "Email this user" on my userpage. Their season runs from early May until around the first weekend of September. Maybe you could shoot a picture of whatever exists where Heidelberg used to be.

I've copyedited the Tim Richmond article to my satisfaction. The next step is to get a few people to proofread it. Here is where it pays to have Wikifriends. It's good to have at least one person who is very knowledgeable about the topic. I'm hoping that you would be this person. It's good to have someone who is real good at English proofreading to review it. It's best if they don't understand the topic so they have no preconceptions to get in the way. I have a friend at WikiProject Wisconsin who I'll ask. Depending on how this goes, I might nominate it for GA. I'll keep you informed. One of the criteria for GA is that the article is stable. That means that there should be some time for anyone to edit the article and there cannot be any edit warring. Fortunately, it takes several days or up to a few weeks for someone to review it. Also, it's expected (and good karma) for a nominator to review another article which needs reviewing against the GA criteria. I like picking one that's ahead of mine on my list. Royalbroil 02:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for being willing to do the peer review/copyedit. I asked the other copyeditor for a grammar check. About Kulwicki, I've looked long and hard to find a free image of him. I've talked on the phone (literally) with his friend who's writing a book about him. I've asked several photographers on flickr, including one who used to photograph for Circle Track magazine. So far I've found nothing. I'd REALLY appreciate a picture. I'd love to find a picture of Rob Moroso too. Cheers! Royalbroil 03:18, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Please edit the article directly. When you start, please check to make sure that you're not editing at the same time as the other proofreader. Royalbroil 03:25, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
I stopped just prior to the NASCAR section - check to see that the edits are actually improvements before I go further ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 04:44, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
I have no problems with everything that you did, so I have no changes. It's hard to see these little problems without someone pointing them out to you. Keep up the great work! My philosophy for reviewing someone else's proofread is that I have to see something wrong with the change before I discuss. If I feel it's a neutral change or an improvement, I leave it be. It usually reads better with even a neutral change. I'd only change if I think it's wrong.
I'm concerned about the writing style in the NASCAR section. I had no race information from 1982 until 1985, so I think it's real dry statistics. Anything that you can do to improve the choppiness is appreciated. Another concern is that there used to be a criticism of NASCAR section talking about how people felt it was unfair that he was the only driver that had to do "random" drug testing. Another section had talked about how he had to submit his medical records to NASCAR before he would be reinstated, which he wouldn't do because he didn't want anyone to know he had AIDS (especially with the either "gay" or "drug user" stigma from that time). I couldn't find reliable sourcing, but I wasn't too sure if it belonged there in the first place. Royalbroil 05:00, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
Looks like we're both instinctively on the same page ;). I saw that section, and wondered about it - so I asked - I'll go through the rest of the article tonight when I get home.

Peter Norton

For the opening statement, I was looking for help @ the Moz. FF article. Very interesting. FF mentions market share. I know that NAV/NIS is the most popular and most used product in the world; however I lack exact numbers. According to Symantec, they protect more people in the world than anyone else. However, I think that statment could be seen as advertisement/promoting Norton and it is too general. And I found it on the box of N360 I brought; I have seen it nowhere else.

So, I'm thinking about incorporating Peter Norton, somehow. However, looking at the Peter Norton article, I cannot find any interesting or notable information. Symantec just decided to use his name. TechOutsider (talk) 17:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

First before I forget, I got some clarification on GA here. OK, yep, I remember when it was Norton - I used his tools a bunch back in the 80's. He got bought out by Symantec. Depends on how you word it, and the sources you cite I think. (regarding the advertisement stuff). Probably the Peter Norton stuff could go in the History section (or sub-section). By the time you get all that kind of stuff in, you may be looking at FA too. I'm gonna get the RfC thing done now ... I'll leave you the info shortly. — Ched ~ (yes?) 17:31, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
don't know if it would fit, but at one time - McAfee and Norton had a very intense rivalry over getting the AV market. — Ched ~ (yes?) 17:33, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

OK - I added the RfC to both Technology and Business: tech is here ~ the Business one is here ~ and the section in the talk page where we'll get comments is here - you should probably put your comment in right away so it's at the top of the section too. ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 18:10, 1 March 2009 (UTC)

Merge WholeSecurity and Norton AntiBot

The reasons are listed here. Do you know anywhere I could post the proposed merge for publicity? The Computer Security wikipjt isn't especially active. TechOutsider (talk) 23:50, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

I posted there - but don't know much about bots at this point. I haven't done any serious programming in years, but I'll see what I can do down the road. ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 04:20, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
"PROD" the article? It goes like this. WholeSecurity was acquired by Symantec. The technologies developed by the company formed the basis of Norton AntiBot, along with technologies licensed from Sana Security]]. Key technologies in Norton AntiBot were then put in NIS/NAV for the 09 release. TechOutsider (talk) 23:57, 2 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Someone keeps taking down my corrected page.

Hi there, I am new to Wikipedia and I'm confused right out of the gate. I posted corrections and additions to the page on Kentucky author Gurney Norman, but someone keeps taking the corrected page down and reposting the previous page. This has happened several times and I'm pretty frustrated. Why is this happening? Many thanks, Spudsparo (talk) 06:22, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Re: Merge

Sorry to arrive so late, been a bit busy over the past couple of days. I see you've got the articles merged...I see nothing out of the ordinary. As for the rename, so long as noone on the talk page has a problem with it, then you are free to do so. Just give it a few days to see if there are any objections. I trust you'll do fine, but if you want, I'll double check the move when you've finished it. Huntster (t@c) 06:58, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

By the way, I'm astonished with the sheer amount of talk page activity you've got going on! You've probably generated as much traffic in one month as I do in a whole year. Not to mention, far more active than me. Kudos! Huntster (t@c) 07:03, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
(ec)No problem - I was half tempted to drop a "You appear to be engaged in an edit war" note on your talk page - but thought better of it, at least until you got everything under control. ;) ... I'll drop a "Move" discussion on the talk page first then, and check back later for objections (doubtful). Seriously though, you may want to call down to the station if he's that close, better safe than sorry - CYA.
Did you get to see the race? .. Jamie Mac pulled a drifting move that can go in the next Fast and Furious movie ... lol. — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:08, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
Oh, edit war with regards to the vandalism and such going on? Yeah, that's a mess. Guy is caught red-handed and still won't admit to his errors. Oh well. And I'm not concerned with his proximity...there's virtually no way for him to know who I am, locate me, or even really determine where I work (not to mention *when*). In the unlikely event he would make any moves in real life, I know I have blue backup. *grin* And no, didn't get to see the race, sounds like it was a darn good one. Huntster (t@c) 07:13, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
LMAO, if only all editors were as teachable! If only I was as teachable, hehe. Avoid teh dramaz! Huntster (t@c) 07:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

← Thanks for the kind words :) Yeah, I saw where you were working to rescue Shutdown Day. At first I was concerned it was too non-notable, but there appear to be several varied sources within Google News (link) that you may find useful as refs. Not sure if there needs to be separate subsections for each year...I doubt each iteration is notable enough; and do remember to change all references to inline citations, rather than just hanging in the References section. Huntster (t@c) 07:41, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for news links! - and yea ... I'll do the proper format for the refs here shortly - very rough draft right now, and was just taking short-cuts (even though I shouldn't). After the Study Skills purging, I've learned to save to HD too, just in case. Yea, now that I think about it a bit, you're right, probably should just flush the separate years. Thx for checking it out ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 07:49, 2 March 2009 (UTC)

New happenings

Ched, could you please go and take a look at my user (not talk) page, there's a brief correspondence there that I'd like you to see. Once again, thank you for your insights on many different things in Wiki, you rock! Edit Centric (talk) 08:53, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

I REALLY hate to see this Edit. I'm not sure what precipitated this (yet), so I don't exactly know what course of action could help at this point. I am hoping that after a good nights sleep, some time with your family, and maybe a beer or frapachino you will reconsider. I'm sorry I wasn't around to help (if that would have even been an option). Maybe just going to another area for a little while would help - A couple folks here suggested that I avoid the drama pages for a bit, and it's been helpful to me. Maybe do some editing on some subjects that you enjoy, twinkle some vandalism, chime in on some of the PRODed pages. Please don't let one or two editors you don't agree with get you so down. You were working in one of the toughest areas of Wikipedia - dispute resolution often requires grabbing the most aggressive person in the room, and trying to pull them off the pile - that means you're going to get a black eye now and then. But, I guess that doesn't really help - you already know that. I will see if I can piece anything together tonight, and if there is any way to work through this.
I really am very sorry to see you feel this emotionally drained, please feel free to let me know if there is anything I can possibly do to help - sometimes just having someone to talk to can have a great healing effect. I am honored that you consider me someone that you respect, and I don't take that lightly. I'll consider your user pages a sign that "You're not home at the moment", and as such - I wouldn't feel right about leaving anything there (other than a note on the front door). I truly hope that you'll keep this line of communication open - even if it's after a short wiki-break

As promised, I did review what I could here. Again, Edit, I am sorry that you feel dismissed or discredited. My guess is that the constant strain of moderating disputes at WQA has taken an understandable emotional toll on you. Sort of like the wide receiver that goes over the middle for a passing offense - you take a lot of hits, and eventually, you get tired and start to hurt. Looks like a "straw that broke the camel's back" case. Funny how it's always the little things that can be the ones that push things over the top. To be honest though, I really didn't see anything so awful. I've seen roux and Future Imperfect at other places, and although I've never directly interacted with them (as least as far as my feeble memory can recall), I've never seen any indication of rudeness or even a hint of unfriendliness from either one of them. In fact, my perception has always been one that roux has a fantastic sense of humor when the mood calls for it. I honestly doubt that there was any dismissive intent at all, (unless there is some past history that I'm unaware of). The only possible items I can see that could be defined a little more are 1.) Moderator and 2.) Text color

  1. While in the context of the WQA discussions the term moderator carries the connotation among you regulars as simply that of: Offering a third opinion in an attempt to counsel disgruntled users, and attempt to de-escalate potential problems. On a larger stage, (meaning the Internet in general) web-sites such as BBS, forums, message boards, chat rooms, etc. - a Moderator can indicate a position of authority, an editor who has the ability to remove threads, and block or ban users from a particular website (much like the "Administrator's" functions at Wikipedia).
  2. Text color - I'm used to seeing all different colors and fonts through-out various IM, chat-rooms, message boards, forums, blogs, etc. In fact I never would have even noticed or thought twice about it if it hadn't been mentioned. But I guess that other than the green text on policy pages, (and the various creative signatures) - it's really not seen too much on Wikipedia.

So, in a sense I could see a new user thinking a different text color and title of moderator might be inclined to think there was some sense of authority inferred there - even though I have no doubt that wasn't the intent. So, in conclusion:

  • Upon further review - I find that there has been a ruling of "No harm, no foul" - that's not to say that you were not injured on the play, you, as a valuable member of our team, obviously were. I'll call a suspension of the game, everybody belly up to the bar, I'm buying the first round! Relax a bit, take a break from the tortures of WQA - and get refreshed, we're gonna need you for the play-offs buddy. I look forward to your return. ;) — Ched ~ (yes?) 10:37, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

Past v. Present tense

Which should I write in? TechOutsider (talk) 00:53, 7 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

I would think that for the NIS / NAV articles it would be fine to write in present tense since the topic is current. If however you are referring to a past event or state (NAV 2006 runs slowly in such-and-such a case) then I would probably write that in past tense. If there is something in particular you'd like me to look at, drop me a link.
On a side note - I have to apologize for not getting back to you on the image issues. By the time I got around to looking at things, it appeared that Huntster was helping you get the items sorted out. To be honest, I am not up to speed at all on the image issues. I'll have to research that very soon though because as a (hobbyist) photographer, I'll be adding some content before long. Since my brother is a professional photographer, I'm pretty well clued in to the concerns on copyright issues, but not from a Wikipedia standpoint.
Did that one editor come back and do the GA review yet? — Ched ~ (yes?) 01:02, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Sorry

Whoa, I'm sorry. I'm not quite sure how or why that happened. It was pretty close to right before I went to bed though, so maybe I was overtired. My apologies, I didn't mean to. Vincent Valentine 12:38, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I've done some more thinking about my accidental deletion and here's my best guess: I was using Huggle, and if you look at the time stamps for our edits they were at the same time. My guess is that you saved yours a split second before mine, so when Huggle added a warning for the vandalism I had just reverted, your warning got wiped. It was only my second time using Huggle, but I'm pretty sure the timing thing was just a weird freak occurrence where your edited had just saved and Huggle's internal mechanisms were setting up the warning and they got conflicted. I did not mean to undo your edit. Sorry, again. Best, Vincent Valentine 14:32, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Split

I'm going to split the two articles; it's just too much to comprehend for the avg. reader. TechOutsider (talk) 15:15, 7 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

Hey Tech - that's fine with me. Let me know if you need a hand with anything, and I'll try to help. (Ched Davis - not logged in because I'm not behind the firewall at home - the one I trust... lol) 173.88.220.161 (talk) 17:29, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Spell check tool

I can't find any such tool in my preferences>Gadgets how do I enable and use this tool? (You mentioned about it at the Help Desk) Thanks —Konsole4.2 (talk) 17:04, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I'll look it up tonight when I get home - I think you need to install some script to one of the monobook files. (Ched Davis - not logged in) 173.88.220.161 (talk) 17:32, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
