Newton Grove is the craziest place to be, and it never has a boring moment. Every friday night you can find some hobos walking the street or playing bball in the park.

Newton Grove, chartered in 1879, is a town in Sampson County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 606 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.1 square miles (8.0 km²).3.1 square miles (8.0 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.65%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 606 people, 223 households, and 152 families residing in the town. The population density was 197.2 people per square mile (76.2/km²). There were 240 housing units at an average density of 78.1/sq mi (30.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 77.72% White, 11.39% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 8.75% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.19% of the population.

There were 223 households out of which 26.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.3% were married couples living together, 11.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.15.

In the town the population was spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 85.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.9 males.
