Jeremy Barnes was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1976, the son of a local businessman. Forced by the dictates of necessity to earn some sort of a living he moved to Chicago to attend school at Depaul University in 1995, but soon abandoned it in favour of a wandering life. He joined a then unknown band called Neutral Milk Hotel in 1996. They disbanded in 1998 and he spent a good deal of time tramping off the beaten track in Europe. he also did various jobs including that of a postman and was fond of associating with the devotees of taverns. In 2001 he formed A Hawk and A Hacksaw, in France. Since then he has devoted his time to it and in 2005 he met Heather Trost, who became his primary foil in the band and in life. They currently live in Budapest, Hungary, and have expanded A Hawk and A Hacksaw's line-up over the years to include Hungarian, Romanian, and English musicians. |
