The Peruvian flat-slab segment is a region, spanning the latitudes of 3°–15°, were the subduction angle of the Nazca Plate relatively low causing the absence of volcanism in the Andes. This volcanic gap is located south of the North Volcanic Zone and north of the Central Volcanic Zone. It is believed that the subduction of the Nazca Ridge is causing this gap in volcanic activity due to a decrease in the subduction angle.
