Wikipedia:Files for upload

Welcome to Files for Upload, part of WikiProject Articles for creation. This process was created to allow unregistered users to add new files to Wikipedia with the assistance of experienced Wikipedians. If you would like to upload an image yourself, you can create an account and after four days and 10 edits you will be autoconfirmed and able to upload files. However, please consider uploading free files over at Wikimedia Commons (guide here).

Reviewing requests

If you are an experienced editor, then you can help out by reviewing requests. Make sure you're familiar with Wikipedia's policies on non-free content (or simplified version). Learn about Wikipedia's various copyright tags. Read the guide on how to review file upload requests. Note that this page's editnotice contains an expandable cheat sheet with all the templates used in reviewing requests. After uploading the file tag its talk page with {{subst:WPAFCF}}. Remember to subst all templates. Notify the requester at their talk page using {{subst:ffu talk}} ~~~~ whenever you act on their request. You are responsible for anything you upload, so make sure you are comfortable that the file satisfies Wikipedia's policies first. If the file is non-free, then you must insert the file in the appropriate article right away in order to comply with the non-free content criteria.

If this is your image, can you please change the flickr copyright notice to say "Cc-by-3.0", then we can use this license. Wikipedia cannot use an all rights reserved picture. Comment: The photo hosting page does not say "public domain" instead it says copyrighted by myspace. The image is also very small. Can you upload a higher resolution image to a different place such as flickr, where you can state your copyright? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:46, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Sperm guidance

Description: There are two schemes that I wish adding to my new article termed Sperm guidance - marked as figures 1 and 2 there.

Now undeclined since Medbc is addressing the situation. You could in fact to to commons:upload your self and do the upload now. Select the attribution share alike 3.0 from the licensing dropdown. The reason for the upload is to provide some context for the reasons that the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is involved in controversial actions. At the moment two of the photos give a one sided, negative view of the society, a skull and crossbones flag, and a list of ships sunk. The article needs some balance. The deletion summary was "copyright violation". There is some more context at Commons:User talk:MSGJ. If you could find the image on a more reliable website (not a blog) which gave permission to use it, then I think it would stick. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 23:01, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

Here's another site (not a blog). Trying to find the copyright info. Another [2] though it looks like their Terms & Conditions disallow using. If we don't have it explicitly stated that this image was released under the terms of a free license, then we have to assume it is copyrighted. WP:NFC would apply, which means we'd have to determine if the image met WP:NFCC, then then figure out the proper license tag and write a fair use rationale.-Andrew c ^[talk] 02:11, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

On this site it states (on the right side) that "This photo also belongs to ... all people". On the All People page it says that "This is a public group". Wouldn't that mean that the public, that's everyone, owns the photo? 4.246.206.144 (talk) 02:24, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Maybe I'm reaching but on the same site I found this collage of pictures [3]. If you look near the top center you can see the picture (with words). Now when you go to this page which has a smaller copy of the same collage and look at the top it states quite clearly "We found 63 results matching harp and seal, licensed under the Creative Commons". On the flickr page, you must have missed the part that says "© All rights reserved". More information on flickr licenses can be found at Wikipedia:Upload/Flickr. I'll quote from that page "The statement "This photo is public" DOES NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT COPYRIGHT." Hope this helps.-Andrew c ^[talk] 03:18, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Comment: What you have given us is search engine result for pictures, which has a big lot of different pictures. You will ahve to point us at one particular picture. Also we need to have a license that is associated with the picture, on the same web site that you got it from, so we can see what it is. In this case it sounds like the pictures will not be freely usable to wikipedia, in which case it may be fair use. But you need to write a reason why it is fair use on what article.
