The Queen Victoria is often referred to as 'The Vic' or 'The Queen Vic'. It is the fictional setting of a public house in the popular BBC soap opera, EastEnders. It is located in Walford, London E20 - number 46 Albert Square.
The pub was built in 1984 to 1985. The original pub was brown, and later on it was
painted green and cream. Grant set fire to the pub for insurance money on Sharon's
birthday in 1992. It was then repainted red. The internal sets are in a separate
studio to the building situated in the Square.
The building was made to look as though it had stood for a hundred years - at this time when the Square would have been built, it was the reign of Queen Victoria. This saw the Square named after her husband - Albert and the pub named after her.
Landlords
When EastEnders first began it was managed by Den and Angie Watts until 1988 when their relationship ended. Pat and Frank Butcher then took over - they quit in 1990 and Eddie Royle took over.
Eddie was murdered by Nick Cotton, and Sharon Watts took over.
She then lived there with Grant and Phil Mitchell, until her relationship ended with Grant. Sharon then left and the pub was sold to Peggy Mitchell, the mother of Phil and Grant.
Peggy married Frank Butcher and they ran it together. When Grant left in 1999, Phil sold his share of the pub to Dan Sullivan for a mere £5. Eventually, Phil bought back his share and threw Dan out.
Peggy was forced to sell the Vic after Frank did a runner and left her penniless. Peggy was shocked when Sharon returned as the new co-owner of the pub with business partner Steve Owen.
In 2002, Sharon sold her share back to the Mitchells and Peggy appointed Alfie Moon as manager. In 2004, Den Watts tricked his way back behind the bar, in 2005 Den was killed by his second wife Chrissie who inherited the pub.
Just before being arrested for Den's murder in November 2005, Chrissie sold the Vic to Ian Beale who is the current landlord. This sale was nullified after Chrissie admitted to forging Den's signature on the transfer deed, the Pub's ownership has now reverted to Sharon who should have inhereted it on Den's death.
