Burripalem is a village in Tenali mandal in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India. It has a population of 2,800 (2001 census). It is located 6 Kms east from Tenali Town.

Burripalem is located at 16°15′N 80°35′E / 16.25°N 80.58°E / 16.25; 80.58. Burripalem is 6 km from Tenali Town. It is located 34 km from the sea coast. It is well connected by road transport.

Burripalem Village is just 6 km away from Tenali town. It is well connected to this town through road transport. It hardly takes 12 min by road. People majorly travel by RTC bus, Auto rikshaw, Motorcycle or cycle.

Climate

Burripalem is located 34 km from the sea coast. It is generally hot and humid during summer with temperatures ranging between 32-45 oC. Winters are milder with fog and temperatures between 15 and 23 oC. Heavy rains are experienced between July and November during monsoon time.

At the 2001 Indian census,[1] Burripalem had a population of 2,800. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Burripalem has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 64.5%, and female literacy is 61%.

Economy

The major occupation of the people in this village is mainly agriculture and small scale business. The region around the village has fertile soil irrigated by the Krishna river water and it has three canals irrigating these fields Paledrikaluva, Pathakaluva and Kothakavluva. Major crops include Paddy, Blackgram, Corn, Turmeric, and Sugarcane.

  • There are a good number of famous temples, such as Saibaba Mandiram, Anjaneyaswami temple, Narasimhaswamy Temple, Patha Ramalayam, Geetha Mandiram, Ganganamma Gudi and two churches.
  • In the heart of the village a village deity Boddurai was installed superstitiously in the recent years.
  • Festivals are celebrated on a grand scale throughout the year in Burripalem. The most famous being Sankranthi which is a crop festival and it's a reunion time for most of the families. Sri Rama Navami is celebrated as annual day of Gurubandhus, Vinayaka Chavathi is celebrated for nine days. Guru Poornima is celebrated by Gurubandhus with a mass feeding. In Maghamasam Sapatam is performed, chanting of Hare Ram: Hare Krishna continuously without any break day and night for 7 days and followed by mass feeding. It is a practice that is followed since 70 years.
  • A.P.K Kalyana Mandapam was constructed recently with the donations given by the villagers.
  • Government primary school and a high school are available in the village for basic education to the children.
  • St. Peter & G. Krishna College of Education is a Private Un-aided B.Ed college in Burripalem, every academic year 60 professionals are graduated from this college.
