Craigafer Edward Mabbitt (born on April 9, 1987, in Scottsdale, Arizona[1]) is an American musician. He is the current lead singer for Escape the Fate and former lead singer for bands Blessthefall and The Word Alive.
Blessthefall
Craig has released 2 EP's and 1 full length album with blessthefall. blessthefall released their first full album, His Last Walk, on April 10, 2007. It produced four singles: 'Higinia', 'Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad', 'A Message to the Unknown', and 'Rise Up'. The band was in the middle of their 2007 European Tour with Silverstein and The Vincent Black Shadow, when Craig left the band for many different rumored reasons. The most widely accepted is that he wanted time to think of whether or not he wanted to continue making music, and also wanted to be with his daughter. Craig later decided he wanted to rejoin the band, but the rest of the band was against it. Craig was informed of their decision via AIM by blessthefall's current guitarist, Eric Lambert. Craig was replaced on September 25, 2008 by their current vocalist Beau Bokan, the former vocalist for Take the Crown. Craig stated in numerous interviews that he was forced to sign over his rights to the music he worked on with blessthefall in order to join Escape the Fate.
Escape the Fate
After vocalist Ronnie Radke was sentenced to a minimum of 18 months in prison for a probation violation, Escape the Fate band members Max Green, Robert Ortiz and Bryan (Monte) Money went on the search for a new lead singer. They turned to Mabbitt, who was looking to join a band after being kicked out of Blessthefall. Mabbitt was thinking about joining the post-hardcore band A Skylit Drive around the time he joined Escape the Fate. Mabbitt had played shows with Escape the Fate in the past and to them, he seemed like a fitting replacement for the band after playing a small tour with them. It was made official that Craig would replace Ronnie soon after the arrest.
The new Escape the Fate released their first album together This War Is Ours on October 21, 2008.
Mabbitt has stated that ETF is indeed writing more music while they tour, and that they already have 5 new songs in the works. Mabbitt also stated for their fans that he has incorporated more screaming in these new songs. They will be featured on the '09 Vans Warped Tour.[2]
The Word Alive
The Word Alive is a post-hardcore/metalcore band formed by Craig Mabbitt, Zack Hansen, Tony Pizzuti, Tony Aguilera, Dusty Riach, and Nick Urlacher.
On November 26, 2008, The Word Alive posted a blog on their official myspace, telling fans that they have made the decision to replace Craig due to complications with his other band Escape the Fate. They describe that their decision to replace Craig with was a tough one and that it was nothing personal. The blog stated,
"...we decided we'd move forward without Craig, [and] the search began for the right member to help us pursue our dreams with. That search is over, and we've never felt more complete as a band. He definitely brings our band to a new level and steps up to the challenge, like we feel only he could."
We want all of you to know that we love Craig, and that under different circumstances we'd be happily touring together. This wasn't how the vision of the band began, however, it's one we are very happy with. We support Craig completely, and have no bad feelings towards his decision. We do hope that you can accept and love us for being willing to follow our dreams no matter what."
The day after, however, Craig Mabbitt posted a message to his fans via Escape the Fate's official Myspace saying what seems to be the exact opposite,
"Leaving the band was never my decision, they pretty much replaced me while I was on the road due to the fact that they wanted to tour and couldn't until I was available, I started that band with those guys and I'm very hurt at how they replaced me while I was touring..."
Craig also made a statement informing that his replacement was Tyler "Telle" Smith.[3].
Side Projects and Guest Appearances
Craig has stated in numerous blogs and bulletins that he will still be creating music of the same style as blessthefall and The Word Alive. He created a new Myspace music profile to host songs that he had yet to release to the public. Craig announced that he has started a new screamo side project based in Arizona.
Craig announced on his Stickam on March 4, 2009 that he will be releasing a song with hardcore band, Attack Attack!, possibly due to him singing on some of their songs during the This War Is Ours tour.
The song released by Craig with Attack Attack! also features Max Green and is called "All That I'm About".[4]
