Neverwinter Nights 2: Mysteries of Westgate (NWN2:MoW) is a computer role-playing game developed by Ossian Studios and published by Atari. It is an adventure pack for Neverwinter Nights 2. The game takes players to the Forgotten Realms locale of Westgate. The player will encounter the Night Masks, previously seen in The Cleric Quintet novels and the The Harpers Series novel Masquerades.

Gameplay

The pack is currently slated to encompass around 15 hours of gameplay at a minimum estimate and includes new music, assets, and voiceovers.

A summary of the plot states: "Set in the infamous Forgotten Realms city of Westgate, players find themselves in possession of a powerful but cursed treasure that threatens to destroy them. Linked to the underworld organization known as the Night Masks, the treasure will draw players into a city-spanning clash between warring factions. Players must choose their allegiance in order to break the curse and ultimately uncover a plot that threatens Westgate itself."

Release Controversy

It was previously revealed by Atari that development of Mysteries of Westgate had ended in late 2007, but the release of the pack was delayed due to a lack of a copy protection solution that met Atari's requirements. This produced many cries of outrage in the fan community.

In a post on the Atari Forums 27 March 2008, a user identifying himself as a producer on the project reiterated this statement and further stated Atari "wanted the security modifications to go out with Update 1.12," but the modifications were "not ready in time so we unfortunately had no choice but to push [them] into Update 1.13." Update 1.13 was released 30 June 2008, yet Mysteries of Westgate remained unreleased with no official word on its status.

As of 7 October 2008, both GameSpy and IGN listed the release date as "TBA 2009", and an official update from Atari indicated it would be released December 2008, though that deadline also passed.

With the release of update 1.22 at the end of February 2009, Ossian employees stated on the official forums that Mysteries of Westgate was undergoing final compatibility testing, and could be released by March 8.

On March 4, 2009, Ossian employees announced that Mysteries of Westgate had gone gold.

On April 17, 2009, Ossian announced that Mysteries of Westgate would be released April 29, 2009 , which it went on to do being available at 00:01.
