Ranbir Rano is a Hindi television series that airs on Zee TV channel starting from September 22, 2008. The story in a gist is about two young souls in search of love, as well as it portrays' the natural view of Punjab and an unconditional belief in the power of destiny. In addition, the story is a representation of real life moments and unforgettable memories close to our human hearts.

Plot

The story hails from Punjab's small town 'Dera-Bassi'. Both of the characters' Ranbir and Rano belong to this same small town, but Rano is from a conservative Punjabi family and hence has limited exposure with the outside world. Her father is the station master of Dera-bassi and it is one day, on her way to 'Dharamsala' that she meets the man who is to become a part of her life – Ranbir. What transpires after is what dreams are made of – sweet moments between the couple, feuding households, and love that outshines the toughest of all obstacles. The questions remain that:::Will this story have a happy ending or will the land live up to its history of combining love and tragedy together?

Characters

Ranbir (age 25)

Is the son of a wealthy man. Is in love with Rano. Was getting married to Rano when the wedding stopped, due to his dear sister Guddo being pushed from the roof.

Rano (age 22)

Is part of a middle class family. Never saw her mother as a child, and is tortured by her stepmother. SHE IS SO SWEET and gentle in nature. She also loves Ranbir too. Her wedding is stopped due to the fact that Guddo got injured and she knows that Sukhi didn't hurt Guddo. So she makes a promise with Preet that in the next 7 days she will prove that Sucki hasn't done anything. rano is a caring person.

Sukhi (age 21)

Is Rano's stepbrother, cruel and greedy he cares only for money as the reason he married Guddo. He steals, thieves and lies. When it is Rano's wedding he is blammed for pushing down Guddo from the roof and Preet gets his charged and sent to jail, but is only greedy due to his mothers teachings.

Mr. Gurucharan (age 70)

Is Rano's real father, kind, sweet and caring. Loves Rano dearly and regrets marrying Kamla realizing what she is really like. Later on he runs away from home because Rano's wedding was stopped. But when Rano and her uncle find him he thinks that Rano did get married. He has turned a little mental.

Kamla (age 65)

Is Rano's horrid stepmother she hates Rano and blames her for everything and anything that goes wrong, she doesn't want Ranbir to marry Rano because than Rano would receive the wealth Sukhi does not have and make her more imporant for the family, she tries to get Rano married off but Ranbirs love puts her in her place. Eventually she gets her way of stopping the wedding.

Guddo (age 20)

Is Sukhi's wife and Ranbir and Vicky's sister, she has a mind of a child and Sukhi and Kamla misuse this and get her married to Sukhi. She loves her family and is just like a child. She isn't used to cooking, cleaning and housework but learns this when she comes to her husbands house, she is mistreated and also burns her hand, this becomes a issue with her family who know that Sukhi only married her for her wealth and inheritance.

Preet (age 35)

Is Ranbir's older sister who hates the name of love and despises Ranbir and Rano relationship and first and hates Rano and her family, putting them and Rano down inconstantly, eventually however when Ranbir almost leaves him she offers Rano shagun and acceptance as the daughter-in-law of the family. She wants Vicky and Tina engaged and married. One day she hears Tina telling Ranbir that she loves him so since that day on she wants Ranbir and Tina to get married. Also she gives money to Rano's stepmother to stop Ranbir and Rano's wedding.

Vicky (age 27)

Is Ranbir's older brother. He is introduced trying to kill Rano for insulting his father, however Nimmi intervenes and Rano gets away. He is seen as a loving, caring and kind older brother because he adores his younger sister Guddo, however is constantly fighting with Nimmi and insulting her and Rano, including Rano's family. The shows highlights are the many times he acts differently with Nimmi and Rano, but in reality is not as cruel as he seems. When Ranbir and Rano get engaged he doesn't stop fighting with Nimmi and because of this starts to feel something other than hate. He finds he is in love with Nimmi.

Nimmi (age 22)

Is Rano's best friend and always there for her when Kamla insults her, she has been childhood friends with Rano and fights off Vicky and his gang when they try to kill Rano, she loves her like a sister and supports her relationship with Ranbir. She has many encounters with Vicky who mistreats her and Rano, when R&R become engaged the sparks begin to fly. She finds she is falling in love with Vicky.

Tina (age 21)

Is Ranbir's "ex-best friend" as she falls in love with him due to her sister Shanno constantly trying to get her to replace Rano's spot in Ranbir's life.

Aunt Teji (age 58)

Is Ranbir's "Pooha-ji", his father's sister.

Shanno (age 25)

Is Ranbir's "Bhabhi" and Tina's sister, wishing for her younger sister Tina to get married to Ranbir.
