Castlevania is a video game series created and developed by Konami. The series debuted in Japan on September 26, 1986 with Akumajō Dracula (悪魔城ドラキュラ, Akumajō Dorakyura, lit. "Devil's Castle Dracula"), which later was released in the United States as Castlevania. The series is one of Konami's most famous franchises. The games takes place in its own fictional universe, and the story revolves around vampire hunters from the Belmont clan waging an endless conflict against the immortal vampire Dracula. Castlevania titles have been released on numerous different video game consoles, handheld game consoles, and personal computer platforms, several which have been rereleased on multiple platforms and included as part of compilation packages. The series' characters have also appeared in several other Konami games.
