Eoghan Quigg (born 12 July 1992) is an Irish[1] pop singer who finished third in the fifth series of the British television music talent contest The X Factor in 2008. As a result of his X Factor success, Quigg was due to be signed by Simon Cowell, X Factor creator/producer and owner and CEO of Syco Records, but was instead signed to RCA after Cowell's offer was withdrawn.[2]
Early life
Eoghan Quigg grew up in Dungiven, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He lives at home with his parents, his two younger brothers Dylan and Calum, and baby sister Chrissie Mia (who was born during the X Factor finals).
Singing along to Disney cartoons since the age of two,[3] Quigg found his voice when he was in class and told to stand up and sing as a punishment. To the teacher's surprise he was amazing and she said to stay behind and go to the school choir, and from then on he sang lead roles in school musicals.[3] He attends St. Patrick's College, a local Catholic secondary school, in his home town of Dungiven.[citation needed]
He has now decided not to carry on at school, and not to take his GCSE's this summer (2009) instead he decided to make his album and go on tour with Boyzone this summer.[citation needed] He has considered returning to school if the debut album fails to succeed.[citation needed]
The X Factor
Quigg auditioned for the talent show The X Factor in front of judges Simon Cowell, Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole in 2008. Quigg got past the "judges' houses" stage of the competition, and made it to the live shows in Cowell's 14–24 boys group, along with Scott Bruton and Austin Drage, both of whom were eliminated early in the live shows. On the first live show, Quigg sang John Lennon's "Imagine" and was highly praised by the judges. On the second live show (Michael Jackson week) he sang "Ben" which was also praised. On Big Band week Quigg sang "L-O-V-E" by Nat King Cole and received a standing ovation from the judges and the crowd. He made it to the semi-finals and after performances of Busted's "Year 3000" and ABBA's "Does Your Mother Know" was voted through to the final.
Quigg eventually finished third, with Alexandra Burke the winner, and JLS runners-up. He achieved the most public votes a total of six times in the series – the most of all the contestants.[4]

Post-X Factor
Quigg appeared at the Cheerios Childline Concert at the The O2 in Dublin on 16 December 2008, among big stars including Enrique Iglesias, Anastasia, Boyzone and many more. He also appeared at several other Irish venues over Christmas 2008, such as Katy Dalys in Strabane and The Elk in Toomebridge.[citation needed] In December he also appeared on The Late Late Show where it was announced that Irish boyband Boyzone had invited him on their UK and Ireland Tour.[5] He returned to St. Patrick's College in January 2009.[6]
After Alexandra Burke won the X Factor, Simon Cowell's Syco Music announced that it intended to sign Quigg, along with Burke, second place JLS, and fourth place Diana Vickers.[7] On 15 January 2009 it was announced that Quigg had landed a record deal with Syco's parent company Sony BMG.[8] The Sun later reported that Cowell had revoked his offer to Quigg and that he has been signed to RCA Records.[2]
Quigg and the other finalists, Diana Vickers, Ruth Lorenzo, Laura White, JLS, Alexandra Burke, Daniel Evans and Rachel Hylton, embarked on the X Factor Live tour which began on 22 February and concluded on 25 March 2009 at Wembley Arena. His merchandise on the X-factor tour was a sellout in a lot of places. He really won the audience over on the night.
In May and June Quigg will be joining Boyzone on their tour and is also appearing in several gigs in Ireland for special guest appearances.[citation needed]
Quigg has just finished filming a pilot for BBC Northern Ireland called Quigg Start. It is essentially a remake of the Eighties programme Junior Kickstart, and features the sport of motorcycle trials. Children aged between 12 and 16 from Northern Ireland compete in a number of challenges, and it is thought an actual series will include a national finals day.
As announced on Pop Justice.com, Quigg will host an updated version of the classic TV series Jim'll Fix It, re-named Quigg'll Fix It. The series will begin filming in October for Sky 1.
'Eoghan Quigg' - Album
Quigg released his first album titled Eoghan Quigg on 6 April 2009.[9] "28,000 Friends" was recorded as a promo song and a music video was shot, however it was never released as a single. The album charted poorly in the UK, only making number 14. In Ireland the album made it to number one however the next week Lady Gaga's The Fame, took back the spot. The album received overwhelmingly bad reviews leading to Peter Robinson in an article for The Guardian claiming it to be "the worst album in the history of recorded sound" and that it was "so bad that it would count as a new low for popular culture". [10] The album was mainly criticised for its complete lack of any original material, poor production and poor singing performance from Quigg.[11]
Personal life
Quigg is currently single as stated on GMTV.[12] This follows his rumoured relationship with fellow X Factor contestant Diana Vickers[13] which Quigg later denied ever happened.[14] Quigg has appeared on several webchats and interviews stating he's single, though in a few magazines he has admitted to be 'casually dating'.[citation needed].
