A Katastralgemeinde (plural: KatastralgemeindenSAY[1]), a German word (for "cadastral community"), is a cadastral subdivision of municipalities in the nations of Austria,[2] Croatia, the Czech Republic[3], Slovakia, the Italian province of Bolzano-Bozen, and Slovenia.[2][4] A cadastral community records property ownership in a cadastre, which is a register describing property ownership by boundary lines of the real estate.
Since 1770, almost every Austrian municipality has Katastralgemeinden.[1] Most of them once had been independent communes and were incorporated on the occasion of a municipal territory reform. They can be further divided into smaller localities (Ortschaften). As of 2004 there were 7,846 Katastralgemeinden in Austria.
For land registration, the unit indentifier used in a Katastralgemeinde is "KG-Nr" (KG-Nummer, or number).[2]
