The 2006 Iran Air Tours crash was a fatal accident in which a Tupolev 154M owned by Iran Air Tours skidded off the end of the runway upon landing in Mashad, Iran. The ensuing fire killed 28 of the passengers.

Possible Causes

Immediately after the accident, Iranian state television reported that one of the tires had blown out upon landing, but this was soon discredited. [1] No additional information is currently available.[citation needed]

Aircraft

The aircraft had been in active service since 1988 and had approximately 19,000 hours of flight time over about 2,200 flights. It was originally owned by Aeroflot. The plane was leased by Iran Air Tours in August 2005 after having been operated by a number of other carriers. [2]
