The song seems to be about a homeless heroin addict begging for forgiveness from his estranged family before he dies. It features Bernardo Bigalli on violin and David Miles on hurdy gurdy. It is one of the few Metallica songs (prior to the 2003 St. Anger) not to feature a guitar solo.
Demo
The song's demo was named "Mine Eyes" and was recorded on October 30, 1995 at Lars Ulrich's home recording studio "The Dungeon".
