West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum is the third studio album by English alternative rock band Kasabian, to be released on 7th June 2009.

"Vlad The Impaler" was made available as a free download from the official website from 31st March to 3rd April 2009. The first proper, physical release from the album will be "Fire", released on 1st June.[1]

Sergio Pizzorno has likened the 52 minute long album to that of “the soundtrack to an imaginary movie.”" Opening with the track "Underdog", the album includes a duet, on the track West Ryder/Silver Bullet, with the actress Rosario Dawson [2].

Album Title

West Riding Pauper Lunatic Asylum was a mental institution built in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England in the 1800's. Its name was then later changed to Stanley Royd Hospital/ Psychiatric Hospital, it was closed down in 2003. Contrary to belief it is not the same hospital referred to in the Kaiser Chiefs song High Royds which was a mental institution near Leeds[3].

Additional information

"Underdog" has been used by Sony in a commercial for their Bravia Televisions. The advert also features A.C. Milan and Brazilian football player Kaká.
