WikiCup

This might be just your thing since you work on articles for DYK and ITN. Signup for 2010 is open now. You can read more here. --candlewicke 18:27, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There aren't really any tasks. You just edit normally and are awarded points based upon what you do. These could easily change next year but this year's are listed on the page at the moment. A normal edit is 0.1 so ten get you one point. A minor edit is 0.01 so one hundred get you one point. DYKs and ITNs (of which you have a few) get you 5 points each provided that you have either created or expanded them in some way. Then there's good articles, featured articles, pictures, sounds, etc. which all have a large amount of points. You get placed in a pool with four others and if you reach the required amount (i.e. by topping the pool or winning one of the wildcards) you go through to the next round. You receive your own submissions page where you place notes of your ITNs, DYKs, GAs, FAs, etc. It doesn't really interfere, if anything it provides you with inspiration/motivation to edit, meet a target and Wikipedia benefits from the content improvement. You can choose which subject you edit so it works for anyone really, no matter what their interests are. --candlewicke 19:38, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I thought you'd be perfect - you've already been involved in DYK and ITN and have months to become involved in other things if you wish as well. :) --candlewicke 19:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Vincent Browne

Yes, if it's free. Do you have enough information to expand him five-fold (requirement for DYK)? That would be quite some article when finished. :) --candlewicke 22:11, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 23:06, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of The Tubridy Show

Hello! Your submission of The Tubridy Show at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! hamiltonstone (talk) 04:04, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Yes! I did put a message quite a while ago on the talkpage of someone who I thought might be interested in adopting me but no reply. Nevertheless, if you would be willing to adopt me I would be most grateful. Bittersweetsmile (talk) 16:45, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also would you prefer to talk on my talk page or yours? Bittersweetsmile (talk) 17:13, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bittersweetsmile (talk) 20:36, 12 June 2009 (UTC)==Fred Hoyle Page== Right then, where to start? Basically I want to completely restructure the page. Add in section for Academic Career. Then spit up his research. 'Rejection of the Big Bang' is certainly misleading: it should be titled 'Steady State Theory'. There is also a significant amount of contemporary controversy concerning Hubble's RedShifts that is not included in the article. Again 'Rejection of Chemical Evolution' is misleading - the point is that he had an alternative theory and that resulted in rejection of others, his main thesis was that he had another theory he felt was more satifactory. Think these are good ideas? Bittersweetsmile (talk) 17:35, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes - always wonderered what Sandbox was for! Will do, can I get back to you if needs be? Bittersweetsmile (talk) 18:04, 12 June

'Cite web source'

Lot's of boxes it asks you to fill in. What ones are essential and what ones are pretty unnecessary? Cheers,Bittersweetsmile (talk) 20:36, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the medal ;) Thanks to your reftools all the citations go nicely into 1abcd form. I'm going to call the number at the beginning (in this example 1) the 'base citation'. The question: I might use the same source a lot througout the article. Should the same 'base citation' be carried throughout the whole article or should there be a new 'base citation' for each section of the article? Cheers! Bittersweetsmile (talk) 12:39, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well I've done a bit as you can see from my sandbox . But when I want to put all my edits into the main article won't a bot just revert back all my changes as there will be a lot of them? Cheers, Bittersweetsmile (talk) 20:32, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Response to 'Will a bot revert my changes to Hoyle article'

Well congrats Sensei. Probably will do it over the weekend. A question: for writing about a scientific issue are journalistic news articles (not necessarily written by a scientist) acceptable as sources or is an established 'scientific' journal/paper required? Thanks Bittersweetsmile (talk) 20:56, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for The Tubridy Show

Updated DYK query On June 13, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article The Tubridy Show, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.
