Michael Rudder (born in Montreal, Quebec Canada March 14 1949) is a Canadian film, television, theatre and voice actor, who was injured in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Acting work

He was a Genie Award nominee in 1989 for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Buying Time. His film credits include Scanners II: The New Order and Splinter Cell, and his television credits include episodes of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman and the Canadian series Night Heat.

Rudder is a well-known voice actor for such video games as Prince of Persia, Far Cry and Splinter Cell.[1]

He also does voices on several animated TV shows such as Bobobobs, The Legend of White Fang, Young Robin Hood, Princess Sissi, Animal Crackers, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Maya the Bee, Postcards from Buster, Inuk, A Bunch of Munsch, The Real Story of, Sharky and George, Christopher Columbus and Samurai Pizza Cats.

His last stage role was in 2007, at the Centaur Theatre production of the David Sherman comedy, Have a Heart.[2]

Mumbai attack

Rudder was shot three times during the Mumbai attack.[3][4] He says he survived by using his film knowledge to "play dead."[5]

A student of transcendental meditation, Rudder was in India on a spiritual retreat at an ashram run by the Synchronicity Foundation. He is considering writing a book about his experiences, to help others who have endured similar trauma:

"I am fascinated and motivated by the meditative experience. I realize that what I was experiencing was a battlefield situation without any machismo or John Wayne bravado. I was experiencing the cool, humorous, attentive alertness of the moment. That might really serve to help my Canadian brothers and sisters who are fighting in war zones. I'd like to teach meditation to the guys and girls with shrapnel wounds such as mine. It would be a great way to rid oneself of fear and hatred and all the negative emotions that cloud our minds at such times."[2]
