Athletics
Thompson Valley hosts 18 varsity sports, as well as a club Hockey team and a Water Polo team, which have not been declared varsity sports.
Men's Swimming and Diving
The Early Years
The TVHS Men's swimming and diving team have by far had the most success of all athletics. The team began under head coach Dick Hewson. It took first place in the Northern Conference race in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1983.
1990-1999
Dick Hewson retired after the 1991 season, and his son Tom Hewson took over the head coaching position. In 1993 the team re-claimed the conference title for the first time in ten years. The following year, the team captured the 5A state title, only the second state title in all sports in school history. In 1995 and 1996, the team took 2nd place each year at the state meet, finishing behind crosstown rival Loveland High School. In 1997, the team claimed their second team title at the Class 4A state meet. In 1998, the team won the meet by one point to take the first back to back state championship in school history.
2000-Present
The team won conference titles in 2001-2007. It claimed second place in the Class 5A state meet in 2002 and won the state title in 2005-2007. After the 2005 season, Tom Hewson retired, and former TVHS swimmer Steve Foster took over the head coaching position. After the 2007 state championship, coach Steve Foster resigned from the head coaching position to pursue his masters degree. Under the coaching of Ryan Williams in 2008, the streak ended, the team placed 2nd in conference behind Silver Creek, and took 6th place at state. After the season, Williams left the team, and the head coach position as of now has not been filled.
Girls Swimming
History
Men's coach Dick Hewson also helped the girls win conference titles in 1986,1987,1988,1989, and 1991, as well as a state title in 1991, before his retirement after the season. Tom Hewson took over the girls team for his father, and won conference titles in 1993,1994, and 1995. Tom retired from the girls head coaching position, but remained the boys team coach. The job was filled by Kris Ayers who lead the team to a conference title in 2002 before retiring following the season. Trevor Timmons took over the team and won conference titles in 2005 and 2007. After deciding to accept an administration job in another district, Timmons resigned after the 2007 season. Assistant coach Maria Strait took over the head position when Timmons left, but after the 2008 season took the head coaching position at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. The spot has since been filled by Kayli Changstrom, a TVHS alumni and former eagle swimmer.
Cross Country
In 2006 the women's team claimed their first state title.
Men's Tennis
Exchange student Martin Cobo gave the school and the city its first individual #1 Singles state champion ever in the fall of 2006.
Wrestling
The men's wrestling team has also had some success in recent years, winning a few district and conference titles.
Band
Thompson Valley has a Marching Band, Concert Band, and 3 Jazz Bands. When not in marching season the marching band splits into two bands after tryouts, Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.
Marching Band
Two years ago, the TVHS Golden Eagle Marching Band received the 'Most Improved Band' award with their show 'Emotions'. Last year the band's show was entitled 'Rain'. This year, the show is called "Americana" and features songs by Aaron Copland.

School Song
The school song should traditionally be sung at the end of any Thompson Valley athletic event victory.
Fight on you eagles,
Soar o'er the rest.
Rise up you eagles,

Black and gold flies high with pride,
create the thunder in the sky.
Fight fight for Thompson Valley High,
Eagles will write their name in the sky.
Eagle power will set us free,
so fight for the victory.
Go for the glory,

Win for the honor that comes with the name.
We'll be number one you'll see so fight for the victory.
