I don't know the exact reasons, but I do know that, especially around Facepunch Forums, there are constant cracks at Mr. Newell's weight and his apparent habit of constantly pushing releases father and farther back. It's even gone so far as to connect the two together, stating that any joke about Newell would lead to the delay of an upcoming game. That's probably why the article is protected, to prevent such jokes from appearing. There's no way Gabe (and his family) lives (Long Beach Penn) which 165 miles from where he works (Bellevue, WA) and commutes that everyday. That had to have been a vacation home shown. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.216.12.89 (talk) 20:29, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should be Gabe Newell and Harrison went on to found Valve, not find. This page is semi protected so i can't correct it. someone with the authorisation, do it please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.172.27.119 (talk) 16:08, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is correct, and still hasn't been fixed. Hoping to bring it to the attention of the powers that be. -RokXRokX (talk) 03:26, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Programmer?

I was under the impression that Newell was the lead programmer at Valve, the page mentions nothing about it and don't know if I'm mistaken. LikuX 08:40, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Added a Picture

Not sure how to format pages correctly yet, and it looks kind of dumb on the page, so if someone could fix that for me, it would be great. --Renablistic 20:09, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dumb? You, sir, are a genius. That is the greatest picture I have ever seen in my life. No, but seriously, that picture is so unflattering it's hilarious. I say keep it for the lulz. Sandwiches99 (talk) 05:33, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia Section

I will concede the fireplace incident, although my brother was an eye-witness. However, I think GN's status as a Harvard dropout is significant both in itself and as an example of the phenomenon in which many Harvard dropouts, including Bill Gates and a few of my TA's, went on to become Microsoft millionaires. Also, GN was never called "Feet" or "Birds" in school, and that line certainly qualified as silly, so I removed it. Fbagatelleblack 17:25, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Games in Windows?

From what I hear he was the one who included the games in Windows 1.0 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.192.90.51 (talk) 16:24, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does anyone have a reliable source on this factoid? AlistairMcMillan (talk) 00:13, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS3 Bias

What's with the section that is nothing but bias against the PS3? It doesn't even specify which "port" they are talking about. I know Newell has said that in the past, but he's said the same thing about the 360. It's his rant on next-gen in general. http://www.joystiq.com/2005/07/25/gabe-newell-not-happy-with-next-gen-consoles/ Hadiz (talk) 20:36, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edited to clarify which port we are talking about. AlistairMcMillan (talk) 14:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I must say that I do find that section to be less than objective - it's effectively laying the blame for a perceived inadequate game on an person from a completely different development house. Gabe Newell really had nothing to with the quality of the ps3 release, nor should he be held accountable for it. Also of note is that the PS3 release of the Orange Box had an average reviewer score of 89% of metacritic, while this score is not quite as high as the pc and xbox releases it is enough to make it the 4th highest ranked game on the ps3. http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/halflife2theorangebox - Funkeystu (talk) 08:42, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It should clearly be edited to show his overall distaste in current-gen console technology, or if anything, moved to another article (like Valve itself or The Orange Box). Right now this has a clear fanboy slant. -TonicBH (talk) 04:42, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Windows "producer"; other roles at Microsoft

From the article with the producer quote, Newell describes his role "[using] games industry parlance". Likely, this means he was a project manager, and given what I've read of Microsoft's management of projects, likely one of several. I'm interested more in what he did at Microsoft after those three releases, though. Depending on how you count them, the third release could have been Windows/x86 (2.1; released 1988) or Windows 3.0 (released 1990). Did he work at all on 3.1x, NT, or Windows 95? --coldacid (Talk|Contrib) 13:43, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

LMFAO. Please, make sure no one takes this down due to fair use policies or any shit like that. This picture is so unflattering it's hilarious. Sandwiches99 (talk) 05:36, 28 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is a name/security tag lining there. It's not as what many people see it as. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.48.172.161 (talk) 11:48, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Son reportedly enjoys Counter-Strike?

What is this? What on God's green earth does this have to do with Gabe Newell? Millions of people enjoy Counter-Strike, and one of them is *gasp* related to him? No crap! This piece should be removed immediately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.190.157.74 (talk) 04:16, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done I could imagine reasons it might be relevant, but the statement itself is an uncited weasel and we can't decide or speculate our own relevance either. DMacks (talk) 04:56, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism?

why is this article "semi protected indefinitely due to an ongoing high risk of vandalism"? why is Newell so unpopular?? Jgcxelite (talk) 12:35, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
