Matt Roberts is the current co-presenter of BBC Sport's Moto GP coverage alongside the lovely Suzi Perry. Matt has been working in MotoGP since 2001, initially as a writer and then as a commentator. Since 2005 he has expanded his portfolio within the paddock, producing press material for several teams and contributing articles to publications in the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and the USA.
BIKER nuts must envy Matt Roberts.
The former Huddersfield student has landed a dream job – presenting BBC TV coverage of this season’s tremendous MotoGP race programme. He was in Qatar when the new season kicked off and in two weeks time will fly to Japan. Television viewers will recognise Matt Roberts, a former All Saints High School pupil, as last-season’s pit-lane reporter, but now Matt is the main presenter.
Former host Suzi Perry will still present the European rounds, but Matt will take over for all rounds outside Europe.“It’s a bit different to pit-lane reporting,” said Matt. “If I’m interviewing someone or talking to Suzi from the pit-lane then I’m not really thinking about the camera, but with presenting I’m talking straight to it and the people back home and I’m a bit nervous about that.”
Matt, who also attended Greenhead College and Huddersfield University, will feature in preview shows as well as on race days. In his first preview show Matt interviewed reigning champion Valentino Rossi over a game of table football. “I told Rossi beforehand that I was playing with my dream strike force of Gerrard, Gascoigne and Andy Booth. “He picked up on this and in the interview said that after Ibrahimovic, Andy Booth is the number two striker in the world.”
