Midway High School is the only high school in the Midway Independent School District, which serves the Waco, Texas area. Although the school is located in southwestern Waco, most students live in the suburbs of Woodway and Hewitt.

Up until the fall of 2003, Midway High School was located on Hewitt Drive in Hewitt. The newly constructed building is a few thousand feet away, in the city limits of Waco. The previous high school is now used as Midway Middle School.

Midway is classified as 4A, the state's second biggest size, by the University Interscholastic League for athletic and academic competitions.

Midway has 1900 students enrolled as of the end of the 2006-2007 school year. The ethnicity breakdown of Midway is: 72.8% White, 13.1% Hispanic, 10.4% African American, 3.3% Asian, and 0.4% Native American.

Midway was rated academically acceptable by the TEA based on the 2008 TAKS results.

Athletics

Midway High School and its late superintendent M.T. Rice were known as pioneers in the development of girl's basketball in the state. The M.T. Rice Holiday Tournament, which features elite boys and girls teams from across the state and country, is one of the oldest and largest basketball tournaments in the state. Under the direction of legendary coach Reggie Davis, Midway won the 4A State girls's basketball championship in 1994.Davis is one of the few coaches in Texas history to lead both a boys team (The Midway Boys in 1973) and a girls team (on multiple occasions) to the state tournament. Most recently, the Pantherette basketball team won the 4A State girls's basketball championship in 2009 under coach Teri Morrison.

Midway High School also had the number one volleyball team in the state of Texas for the 4A division in the 2007-2008 season.

The Midway High School Varsity football team had a successful 2008-2009 season, advancing to the Class 4A Division I Region II final game against the Longview High School 'Lobos' of East Texas. Additionally, the boys basketball team advanced to the 2008-09 Regional Semi-Finals.
