Soviet people was an ideological name for the population of the Soviet Union, independent from their nationality.

The Soviet government promoted the doctrine of merging of all peoples living in USSR to one Soviet people, speaking Russian, accordingly to Marxist principle of "Fraternity of peoples". This doctrine was a part of Russification.
