Microsoft career
Microsoft Office
As the top marketing executive in charge of Microsoft Office during the 1990s Bach battled against Corel and Lotus when they had 80% market share to Microsoft's 20%. Microsoft Office suite is now Microsoft's second most profitable product suite garnering billions in revenue.
Microsoft Europe
From 1990 to 1992, Bach served as the business operations manager for Microsoft Europe, reporting to the president of Microsoft Europe in Paris, where he coordinated business planning and strategy, budgeting, and special projects. He helped unify Microsoft's once-divided European local units. Interestingly enough, he could often be found flying around Europe in the Back part of Coach Class with Bill Gates. Ironically enough, both Bach and Gates now fly around on their own private jets.
Chief Xbox Officer
Bach was the top executive in charge of Microsoft's gaming consoles Xbox and Xbox 360, which had mixed success. While the Xbox did manage to take a fairly large share of the market it created a large amount of debt and should not be considered a financial success but more of a long term investment. The Xbox 360 also has a decent share of the gaming market, despite being behind Nintendo's Wii and having rough competition against Sony's PS3, but has yet to make back the investment spent by Microsoft to get to this point. This is likely due to a policy of selling hardware at a loss combined with initial hardware development costs.
The Xbox and Xbox 360 while doing well in European, North American, and Australian markets have not done well in Japan. The Xbox had abysmal sales in Japan while the 360 trails behind significantly in total sales. Recent releases have occasionally boosted the 360 into 2nd place in terms of weekly sales in Japan but the same could be said for the PS3.
Zune
Bach is now leading the charge against Apple Computer's iPod with Microsoft's Zune.
