Tinana State School is a public primary school located in Maryborough, Queensland, in the suburb of Tinana. The school is run by the Queensland State Government and was one of the first public schools to be established in Queensland. The school colours are red and black. As of the 2007 school year 535 students were enrolled at TSS.
History
Tinana State School was opened on 31 May 1875 with an enrolment of 47 students. The school was established on 36 acres of land, 16 Acres being set aside for a horse paddock for the students. The school grounds were large for their time as schools were commonly allotted 2 acres of land.[4]

The school is located on Gypmpie Rd in Tinana, Maryborough, Queensland.
Facilities
The school has a number of sporting facilities including a multipurpose court, cricket pitch, cricket nets, sport equipment borrowing sheds and a very large and spacious oval, including the Neil Ottaway Oval which is levelled and irrigated. The school has a computer lab with network and internet access. A school library with a range of books and resources is available to the students. Tinana State School has a rainforest, with new trees added regularly.[6]
The school newsletter "Tintaks" is published every fortnight. The newsletter details upcoming events, news of school activities and educational news items.[7]
Students attend Religious Education sessions once a week. Students are expected to attend these sessions, however they are not compulsory.
Extra-Curricular activities are available to students including Instrumental music. Students may take lessons in woodwind, percussion and strings and join the school concert band or string ensemble.[8]
A chaplain attends TSS twice a week.
Uniform
Tinana State School is a strict uniform school. Students are to wear the uniform when
- attending or representing their school;
- travelling to and from school;
- engaging in school activities out of school hours.[9]

- Red Polo Shirt
- Black Box Pleated Skirt/Shorts/Skorts
Boys:
- Red Polo Shirt
- Black Stubbies or Rugger Style Shorts
Winter Uniform: Boys & Girls:
- Track suit - black pants/red jumper or red school jacket
Hat:
- Black with school emblem. (Wide Brim, minimum 6.5cm)
Footwear:
- Fully enclosed shoes
Socks:
- White socks
Jewelery:
- Watch
- Small plain sleepers or stud earrings
- Medical alert bracelet or necklace
- Items of significant religious belief with notification to administration
Hair:
- Collar length hair is to be plaited, braided or tied back with appropriate accessories (red or black).
- Conservative hairstyles are accepted at Tinana State School.
Sport
There are three major sporting events between different sports houses during the year. Swimming Carnival, Cross Country, Athletics Carnival. The school is divided into three houses:
Chappell (Green)
Laver (Yellow)
Whickham (Blue)
Students are randomly assigned a position in houses, unless a sibling currently attends the school they are assigned a position in the same house.
