*The DOB of March 8, 1943 is listed at [http://bluesman2001.blogspot.com/2009/03/willie-king-rip.html Blues Historian blog], and [http://www.cdispatch.com/news/article.asp?aid=587 his local Commercial Dispatch newspaper] said he died on his 66th birthday, so this date looks solid. There was some confusion when WIllie King died about his birth date. Having worked very closely with him during the last few years of his life, including having a copy of his birth certificate, the facts are that i) his birth certificate gives his date of birth as 25 March, 1943 and ii) he always celebrated his birthday on 18 March, saying he was born a few days earlier than his birth certificate stated.

I note that the New York Times reference now says Mr. King died at 65. My guess is that somehow "8" and "18" got confused and once the rumor started it was hard to stop.
