Animal Crossing, known as Animal Forest in Japan, is a video game franchise by Nintendo. In North America. Animal Crossing is a Player's Choice game. It uses the GameCube's internal clock for the time, although you can adjust it in the game.

Aninmal Forest was released for the Nintendo 64 in 2001, and a new edition of the game, called Animal Forest +, was released for the GameCube in the same year. Another new edition of the game, Animal Forest e+, was released in the summer of 2003. Animal Crossing was released in the year 2002 in North America and 2003 in Australia.

The Game

When you start the game, you have to do chores for the local shopkeeper, Tom Nook. After you finish, the main part of the game will start. Some of the things you can do include going fishing, catching bugs, playing Nintendo Entertainment System games, and making patterns at the tailor shop.

Your House

In Acre B-3 of each village, there is a area with four houses and the town bulletin board. At the beginning, you can choose any house you want as long as no one's living in it. When you start, the house will be very small, but each time you pay off your loan, it will get bigger.

Happy Rating Association

The Happy Rating Association rates every part of your house, except the basement, based on points. Each day, they will send you a letter informing you of the amount of points gotten. The HRA will deduct points for the following:

  • If you mix different themes or series on the first floor.
  • If you put a furniture that has a use (a wardrobe) and put it against a wall.
  • If you put things like raffle tickets, clothing, and various tools on the ground.

The HRA will add points for the follwoing:

  • Complete a furniture series, theme, or set.
  • The wallpaper or carpet matches the series or theme.
  • You have the complete necessities of life from a same or different series.

House Upgrades and Expansions

  • Your first house is gotten when you buy your house. There isn't much room. The loan is 19,800 Bells, and some of that is paid off when working at Tom Nook's shop.
  • The 1st expansion is gotten when you pay the 19,800 Bells required to get it. It has a little more room, and you can put whole furniture sets and series inside.
  • The 2nd Expansion is gotten when you pay off the 148,000 Bells for the 1st Expansion. It has a little more room.
  • The Basement is gotten when you pay off the 148,000 Bells for the 1st Expansion or the 398,000 Bells for the 2nd expansion. The Happy Rating Association does not rate basements, so you can store as much junk as you want down there.
  • The last expansion to your house is a 2nd floor, which is the same size as the 1st expansion, is gotten when you pay off the 398,000 Bells for the 2nd Expansion (or 49,800 for the Basement). When you pay off the loan of 798,000 bells, a statue of you will be placed in front of the train station.

In Animal Crossing, some items have Feng Shui properties. Place the item that corresponds to that color in the certain part of the room, and you will recieve a benefit.

  • Orange items are placed in the north of your house, green items in the south, and yellow items in the west. All sides give you good luck in money and items.
  • Red items are placed in the east of your house. Gives you good luck in items.

Places in the Village

  • In Acre A-3 of every village is the train station. This is where you come when arriving in your town, and you use it to leave the town to go to a different village.
  • A shop, which is ran by Tom Nook. You can buy and sell things here. Each time you spend a certain amount of Bells, the currency in Animal Crossing, Nook will upgrade his shop.
  • A post office, ran by 3 pelicans: Phyllis, the nightime clerk, Pelly, the daytime clerk, and Pete, the mail carrier. Here is where you send letters, pay off the debt to your house, and can store Bells.
  • A dump, where you can find various objects.
  • The police station, run by the two dogs Copper and Booker. Here is where you will get a map when visiting another town, information on upcoming events, and you can take lost items.
  • A museum, ran by the owl Blathers. When you begin, it's empty, but you can donate fish, fossils, insects, and paintings to make it complete.
  • A wishing well, where many events are held.
  • A dock, where you can go to the island if you have a GameBoy Advance-GameCube link cable.
  • The lighthouse, which you have to turn on when the mayor is away.
  • In a random acre is a pond, where some events are held.

You can collect various NES games in Animal Crossing. The games you can collect are:

Using the GameBoy Advance

The GameBoy Advance plays a major role in Animal Crossing. To link the two, you need a GameBoy Advance-GameCube cable.

The Island

When the two systems are linked, go down to the dock to meet Kapp'n. He will ask you the name of the island, and you will go down there. On the island, there is a villager living there. You can give the villager items in return for Bells. Near the villager's house is a house that everyone in the whole village can use for anything. When you first go in, you will find 4 shirts. Also on the island are coconut trees, and this is the only place you will find them. It will always be summer on the island.

e-Reader Compatability

Animal Crossing is compatible with the e-Reader. You can use e-Reader cards to get new items, a new town tune, or a design.

At the Post Office, there is a machine to the left of the building, called the e-Transfer Machine. The cards with villagers on them are scanned here. These cards give you items.

Next to the post office is the Melody Board. After you prepare the e-Reader, scan the melody card and it will be your town tune.

At the Able Sisters, talk to Mabel. Prepare the e-Reader, scan the card, and the new design will be at the shop.
