Mayobridge

Mayobridge (from Irish Droichead Mhaigh Eo 'bridge on the plain of yews') is a village near Newry, County Down, Northern Ireland. It is located within the Newry and Mourne District Council area. It had a population of 842 people in the 2001 Census.

Sport

St Patricks Gaelic Athletic Club, Mayobridge is the oldest Gaelic Athletic Association club in County Down. They have the most successful club in Down, according to the Croke Park GAA committee. The senior team are currently County Champions having defeated Loughinisland in the final, making their 2008 win five in a row with the club now having won eight of the last ten county finals. Adding to the success of the senior team, the seconds also won the Down premier reserve championship and the minors won the Down minor championship in 2008 completing an amazing treble. The club's under 16 team won the league and championship double in 2006. Other underage teams (U-8 and U-10) have gone unbeaten in 2006 leaving a bright future for the club. Furthermore senior statistician Tommy O'Hare is recognised throughout Ulster GAA circles as the biggest "statto" in the province and his father played on the victorious Down senior team of the sixties
