Main Characters
Barbara Greco de Elizalde/Rebeca Sanchez (main antagonist/villain) Dubbed "La Hiena" (The Hyena) by the employees of the Elizalde family, Barbara Greco was hiding a dark past of murder, deceit, and sabotage. She remained innocent in the eyes of the Elizalde family and quickly rose to a high position in the family's dairy business, Grupo Lactos. She murdered Montserrat Elizalde, mother of Fernanda and the other Elizalde children. Barbara married Gonzalo Elizalde as part of a long-term plan to destroy the entire family, and was responsible for the false accusations of Eduardo Juarez, which lead to his departure and subsequent quest for revenge. Barbara was also involved in an affair with Damian Gallardo, her accomplice, who courted and married Fernanda. While Barbara's actions were dark and evil, she was simply the pawn of a much more powerful and evil mastermind. As the story unfolds, we learn that Barbara as a child was a victim of abuse. In a flashback, we learn that at a very young age she burned her parent's house while they were inside. Barbara and Artemio crossed paths when Artemio helped her get out of jail. At the age of 15, Artemio abused her and that's how she got pregnant. She never met the baby after giving birth, Artemio told her the baby died, but the baby survived. Aurora (Barbara's daughter) reappears when she starts a relationship with Santiago. Barbara later finds a hankerchief with the initials "R.S.", meaning Rebeca Sanchez (Barbara's real identity, the hankerchief was given to her by Artemio) she suspects she is her daughter but Artemio later makes her suspect that Aurora is his mistress and that Artemio sent Aurora to spy Barbara. So, to fight back, Barbara convinces Camilo to rape her. Barbara finds Camilo and Aurora in bed, she throws Aurora out after making an agreement that Barbara would not tell Santiago what happened, if Aurora left forever. Later, Barbara finds out from a witch (Barbara took Aurora to see this witch in order to get more information about her) that the hankerchief belonged to Aurora's mother, Barbara. Barbara swears revenge on Artemio. Finds Aurora and tries to separate her from Santiago. Her plans are ruined when Artemio kidnapps Liliana (Fernandas sister). Barbara makes a deal with Artemio and Liliana is given back to Barbara. But, Aurora goes to Santiago. As all this happened, Gonzalo and the entire Elizalde family find out about Barbara's crimes. Aurora confronts Artemio and Barbara, Aurora tells them that she does not want to be part of their life, she never wants to see them again, and she leaves. As she left, Barbara tells Artemio not to let her leave, but he lets her leave. Making Barbara take out a gun and shoot him in the head, killing him instantly. Later, cops are in Artemio's mansion and are questioning Barbara, after being asked "Did he commit suicide?", Barbara says, "No, I killed him". Barbara goes to jail were she is sentenced to 60 years in jail for all her crimes. All she had left was Aurora, and as a desperate move, she burns herself in order for Aurora to be part of her life. Unfortunately Barbara survived, and on the last scene, she receives a letter from Aurora. In that letter, Aurora says: "It's your grandchild, I'll never deny him to you. His name is Santiago. I'll never tell him any bad thing about you, my son has the right to have a clean soul. As the years go by, wherever I am, I'll let you know how my son is, I'll send you pictures. I don't know if it's enough, but that's all I can give you". We then see a monstrous-looking Barbara, on her knees crying, alone in a dark jail cell.
Fernanda Elizalde (main female protagonist) daughter of the wealthy Elizalde family, wife of Damian Gallardo Born into a wealthy, privileged family involved in the dairy industry, Fernanda is a kindhearted, passionate character. Her childhood romance with Eduardo Juarez haunted her 15 years after they were separated, and it was evident that she was still in love with him. Fernanda loved her "Nana Soledad" as another mother (Nana is Eduardo's mother). At first, Fernanda trusted her stepmother Barbara, unaware of her evil intentions. Much later, unaware of Eduardo's return, Fernanda married Damian Gallardo.
Eduardo Juarez/Franco Santoro (main male protagonist) Son of Soledad Juarez, longtime nanny of the Elizalde family. As a young boy, Eduardo had an innocent childhood romance with Fernanda, the youngest daughter of the wealthy Elizalde family. Falsely accused of taking advantage of Fernanda, Eduardo was torn from his childhood home, friends, and mother, and he left the Elizalde home for 15 years to study abroad. Once he became a successful businessman in the United States, Eduardo returned to Mexico to be reunited with his mother and to claim his childhood love, but found his former life plagued with neglect, injustice, and heartbreak. Once aware of the events of the past 15 years, Eduardo decided to take his revenge on Barbara Greco, whom he thought to be responsible for ruining his life and the lives of those around him. He took on the identity of Franco Santoro, and acted as a successful dairy businessman to infiltrate into the Elizalde family
Artemio Bravo (antagonist/villian) The evil mastermind behind the destruction of the Elizalde family, Artemio appointed Rebecca Sanchez (Barbara Grecco) to execute of his plans and ordered her to present herself to the Elizalde family as Barbara Grecco. His plan is to make the Elizalde family suffer in any way possible because he is the half brother of Gonzalo and resents him because their father Geronimo had an affair with Artemio's mother Ana Gregoria Bravo and thereafter neglected Artemio as his son.
Soledad Juarez ("Nana") Eduardo Juarez's mother, she was the only one who knew Artemio Bravo's secret.
Damian Gallardo Fernanda's husband, who in reality had always been Barbara Grecco's lover and a pawn in her evil plan to destroy the Elizalde Family. Damian was later betrayed by Barbara Grecco, who set him up to be caught by the police.
Gonzalo Elizalde Fernanda's father, the family patriarch and the wealthy owner of Grupo Lactos. After his wife's death, he married Barbara Greco, unaware that it was Barbara who had murdered her. He was also manipulated by Barbara, who planned to destroy his family and business.
Liliana Elizalde Fernanda's sister (victim of Barbara). Ever since she first encountered Barbara Greco in the Elizalde household, they didn't get off to a great start. At one point, Liliana overheard Barbara talking to Artemio Bravo on the phone about the murder plot. In revenge, Barbara framed Liliana for her own mother's death. After the other family members were notified of what Liliana "had done", she was sent to an insane asylum for 15 years, because everyone thought that she was mentally unstable. Thus, Liliana spent most of her life unjustly locked away, where she was given pills and injections that eventually caused her to become a little paranoid and traumatized. Now, with the help of Eduardo, they will try to beat the "Hiena" and unmask her true colors.
Camilo Elizalde spent most of his time taking advantage of his power and humiliating people for pleasure. He was also manipulated by Barbara Grecco, and was later sent to prison by his own sister, Fernanda, because he assualted Steve Norton.
Santiago Elizalde Adopted son of the Elizalde family, and Fernanda's closest sibling, he despised Barbara Greco. On his way to his sister Fernanda's wedding he meets a young woman named Aurora. Aurora knows little about her past. She lives with her aunt, Dominga. She has left her aunt's house to find her mother, who is later revealed to be Rebeca Sanchez (Barbara Greco). Santiago takes her with him and introduces her to his family as his girlfriend.
Priscila Alvear de Elizalde Anibal Elizalde's wife, unhappily in her marriage after years of unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant. Priscila discovered her husband to be sterile, yet kept this a secret from him. In an act of infidelity with Vladimir Piñeiro, close friend of Damian Gallardo, Priscila became pregnant but did not reveal it is not Anibal's child because the heir will receive 50% of Gonzalo's assets. Vladimir constantly pursued Priscila because he was aware of his paternity, and because he also discovered that Anibal had been taking large amounts of money from her own personal inheritance and investments.
