All three news articles spell the name "Cory", in conflict with the spelling provided by the State of Mississippi. The affidavits don't mention his name. When the court transcript appears, this should solve the problem. I did e-mail Radley Balko to see if he had insight into the proper spelling of the name and am awaiting a response. |

Edits
I edited the sentence that said, "Only two of the jurors were African-Americans" to take out the "only." Let's just give people the facts. Also edited out a line that said Maye "probably" didn't know the gun was stolen. How can we judge this? Let's just stick with what is verifiable.
Also, how is this a "current event"? The shooting happened in 2001 and the execution has not been scheduled.
- Well, it is beginning to draw some media attention. Things may change as details emerge. We'll see what happens over the next few weeks. Daniel Case 06:04, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
I deleted the detail that the gun was "apparently" not stolen by Maye. Again, let's just stick to the facts and leave judgments out of this.
Controversy: Lack of Media?
Since I first heard about this several days ago from a libertarian blog, one of the biggest complaints I've heard has been the lack of mainstream media attention this case is getting. Perhaps this is something that should be included under "Controversy"? Juvenall 13:51, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

Heard about this on hammeroftruth.com. Wiki has some very nice and complete work thanks to you all.
Links to Balko's Site
The information at Balko's site is key, however it looks terrible to have so many links listed.
Someone should contact Balko and ask him to maintain an index page of posts related to the Cory Maye story and we can link to that index page. --AStanhope 22:44, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Consolidation of Balko References
The link below works, so I edited to clean up the page a bit.
Balko now has all of his material consolidated under one URL: http://www.theagitator.com/archives/cat_cory_maye.php.
I'd recommend holding off on editing the reference material here until he makes his next posting, in case of some technical glitch with his site coding.
Also, thanks for all of the great assistance and expertise in getting this entry on wiki. You folks are great.
Corey Maye
I moved Cory Maye to Corey Maye: According to this his name should have an "e" εγκυκλοπαίδεια* (talk) 19:48, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
Cory or Corey
All three news articles spell the name "Cory", in conflict with the spelling provided by the State of Mississippi. The affidavits don't mention his name. When the court transcript appears, this should solve the problem. I did e-mail Radley Balko to see if he had insight into the proper spelling of the name and am awaiting a response.
