Miley Cyrus concert chronology

The Wonder World Tour[1] is the first international concert tour by American pop recording artist Miley Cyrus and her second as a headliner. The tour commenced on September 14, 2009 and ends on December 28 [4]and has been ensured to be "child-friendly." It is presented by Wal-Mart and promoted by AEG Live. Most of the costumes for the tour are sponsored by Cyrus' new apparel line entitled Miley Cyrus and Max Azria, released in August 2009.[2][3]

The tour was announced in early June of 2009 and changed titles several times, until it was named Wonder World. The concert commences with a video introduction and later alters into Cyrus performing. The set list of the tour involves mainly Breakout and The Time of Our Lives, where Cyrus performs as herself. Though in the tour Cyrus sings two Hannah Montana songs, "Let's Get Crazy" and "Spotlight," without the wig. With these two songs, "Hoedown Throwdown" and "The Climb," four songs in the set list are from the soundtrack to Hannah Montana: The Movie.

Background

The tour was officially announced on June 3, 2009 through various outlets, including: Cyrus' official Twitter page, Wal-Mart, AEG Live and her official fan club, MileyWorld, along with her new clothing line with designer, Max Azria. At first the tour was only to extend throughout the United States.[4][5][6][7][8][9] On June 5, several more dates were announced for the United Kingdom causing the concert tour to expand. Cyrus tweeted:

that's right folks- I'm going on tour!!! but not any tour, with METROSTATION!!!! [sic] I can't wait to see y'all there! go to mileycyrus.com or ticketmaster.com!!! yayy [sic] :) we are selling tickets the REAL way!!!"[5]

She also performs a cover of Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'N Roll. And a dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

In order to avoid the ticket controversy and scalping that occurred during The Best of Both Worlds Tour, Ticketmaster is using Cyrus's new tour to experiment a new method of ticket sales, which was first tested by AC/DC in their Black Ice World Tour.[10] According to a press release, "All tickets will be sold exclusively through paperless ticket delivery which means fans will not receive a physical concert ticket for their entry into the event." Ticket buyers will be required to bring the credit card used making the purchase and a photo ID to the concert venue in order to gain entry. All groups must enter the concerts together, and ushers will issue "seat locator slips".[4][6][10][11][12]

In regards to the clothing on the tour, Cyrus announced that most of it would be sponsored by her exclusive Wal-Mart clothing line with designer Max Azria.[2] She stated on Twitter: "I love creating looks that are all about personal expression and individuality" and "it's soooo [sic] cute! very rocker [...]"[5] Her outfits, which include a bejeweled bodysuit, will be "pretty wild" and "definitely more mature" than her previous tour.[13] The American alternative band Metro Station, composed of four male musicians including Cyrus' brother Trace Cyrus, was announced as the opening act for the tour. In an interview with Billboard the elder Cyrus assured that he was "excited" and he "couldn't be in a happier position ". Cyrus ensured the tour was acceptable for children, by stating:

"(Miley) definitely has some younger kids that come to her shows that wouldn't come to our shows, but we're making music for all listeners. We're definitely gonna [sic] try to be child-friendly on that tour. We're gonna [sic] try to make it our audience as much as we can. I feel like our music can definitely speak to those kids."[14]

Cyrus returned to Los Angeles, California to rehearse for the tour in mid-August, after she completed filming The Last Song. Cyrus revealed in an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, that due to filming she was only able to rehearse for three weeks though the average rehearsal period for such a tour is about three months.[15] Cyrus explained that due to time constraints, there would be no guest appearances during the tour.[13]
